Probably a little early to get my hopes up...
Looks like best for woodstock. Too windy for Pulpit (and a little south up there).
But it also might be a bit cloudy... keeping my fingers crossed.

Post frontal - Could be spectacular. Dress warm. I am casting my weather forecast akin to Basil's.

Unfortunately I am less optimistic about being able to get myself aloft. I flew last weekend and the baby had a fever this AM.

Now it looks more of a Pulpit direction tomorrow. Planning to stop by there on the way back from Morgantown, around 12 noon.

It looks like it's going to be a bit strong at the Pulpit. I am opting for Woodstock. John D.

Bacil sent me a message he is going to Elizabethville with the Hyner crowd.
9:00 current at Hagerstown shows 16 gust to 20, which bodes poorly for HR and Pulpit today.

Any one have a good idea?

Janni picked up his glider at my house half hour ago, headed for Pulpit. I assume there is a quorum? - Hugh
P.S. Today is a no-fly day for me - social engagement.

Pete and I decided that it was too WSW for Woodstock and too strong for the Pulpit, so we went to Dickey Ridge. Where it was NW. Pete got a short soaring flight while I waited for a cycle. When it came, I blundered into a thermal that took my at 650 fpm to base at 6700 msl. Flew for about another hour before landing in strong north winds.

A fun day but I am very curious about woodstock. Winds looked good for the 'Stocker and there looked like plenty of sun there too (vs all shade at Dickey).

Tom McGowan

PS Pete is a good friend. I lost my wallet during the day and he insisted on buying batteries for our flashlights and going to launch, then the LZ to look for it. With head high grass in the LZ, I thought we had no chance in the dark, but sure enough Pete found it in the LZ. I had dropped it while walking to the breakdown area from where I had landed. Thanks Pete!

WS was okay, flew for about 1.5 hours. Launched relatively late and couldn't get higher than 1500' over launch. Winds were cross, too, so there wasn't much more to do than a nice fast run to signal knob and back. Overtaking Dullahan with full VG and bar stuffed was pretty cool, too, and certainly left an impression with him LOL. Still, nobody got higher than him, that Irish hardhead had the flight of the day :D Lot's of people turned up and everybody seemed to have a lot of fun.

Woodstock Report: Sunday 11/9

Post by CraginS »

Another nice day over the Shenandoah. Nine pilots showed up, nine pilots soared. John D had FOTD reaching 4K. John D, John M, Dan T, Tony D, Grigor the Greek, Janni P, Glenn H, Carlos W and I all had an hour or more in the sky. I flew an hour, topping out around 2650 MSL.

The trees remain fall-beautiful. Another short sky view video of them on my blog. Enjoy it and the music.

What a great weekend. Saturday at HR at Sunday at Woodstock. It was really nice to fly at Woodstock again. I checked my log and it had been since late July. I managed 800' over and 1:55. Wooohoo! Thank you John M for throwing me off and for loaning me gloves that worked much better than mine.

Not mentioned were at least three mature bald eagles flying among and all around us. Craigin made a nice video but Dan Tuck's takes the cake. Don't miss it. John D.
