Zelda and I went early because it was such a beautiful day. I was setup and ready to launch by 1145. Skies were sunny with cus overhead and a line of stratus clouds to the west. It was a perfect 5-8mph straight in so I launched immediately. Lots of small thermals and some ridge lift. I planned to go XC if I got up and did so with 2200 over. Turned into a lawn dart and landed (27 min) in the Massannuttan Military Academy soccer field in Ft Royal. Zelda picked me up and we went back up. We met, Jeff, Ellis, and Lazio at the park entrance packing to head up to launch. We all arrived at launch just before 2pm. Winds had died off and it was now broken to overcast clouds and a bit of a west cross when there was any wind. Jeff launched first and pulled off a run off the left side of the hill but made it out ok. He got up quickly and I followed about fifteen minutes later for my second flight of the day (this is my first ever two flight day at Dickey's). I had to scratch for a good twenty minutes to finally get up. Jeff landed somewhere north of the entrance to the park I believe. I finally got a thermal near the south overlook starting from below the road to 660 and then found magic lift infront of launch that took me to 3300 over maybe 500-1000 below the overcast. It was after 3pm by then and the aircraft heading into DC started to come by so I headed north and landed by the river bridge north of Ft Royal. Ellis and Lazio weren't able to launch because the winds started to shift and were coming from over the back. When I landed winds were north.
Great Dickey's Day.
