I would do Woodstock early, or the Pulpit or High Rock if it's a later day for you. Bacil

Hey Matthew

Tomorrow looks promising, but I can't go out. Keep that in mind since my forecasting skills seem to sharpen when I am flying.

However, the isobars on the ADDS page show pretty light winds at woodstock tomorrow afternoon, something less than 5 mph. Things would be stronger the farther north you go. I would consider High Rock or the Pulpit. ADDS also forecasts that winds aloft will be pretty light, so the Pulpit may be fine. The intellicast forecast doesn't seem to be working right now. Too bad since I believe it has reliable surface forecasts. I also subscribe to Dr. Jacks. He is forecasting 10-15 wnw winds in the boundry layer.

Good luck.

Tom McGowan

PS I can fly this weekend and am looking at Sunday. Maybe Jacks.

Thanks Tom and Bacil.

I'll check forecast again tomorrow morning and make decision then. We plan on leaving the metro DC area at around 9:30 when rush hour traffic starts to let up. Carlos, LE and Dan, I'll give you a call in the AM and post something to the server.

Anyone else interested, give me a call after 8am on Thursday morning.

I'm a PG possibility today (Thursday) for Woodstock given my schedule and where I'll be. Will know for sure by 10:00, or earlier.

High Rock Thursday

Post by Matthew »

Looks like High Rock--- ETA at 11:15.

Sunset is 6:05. So if we take turns, we can all get in a two hour flight.

Dress warm!

I got hung up at work and didn't get out there until about 2:00. I saw Carlos above the ridge as I was driving up and Matthew, Karen and Steve ready to go when I arrived. They all launched and then Eddie and I set up. After they flew for a while, Karen, Carlos and Steve landed and came back up to help launch Eddie and me. I stepped onto the block and launched last into smooth air at about 4:00. The colors were beautiful, I shared a thermal with Matthew and Eddie and got a lot of practice thermalling. Most of them I would lose at about 700' over but I did catch one that got me to 1,100' over. I played around over the rock and waved back to the wuffos when they waved. After just over 1:20 in the air I touched down with a nice flare. We packed it in and headed to the brew pub for nice dinner. I got lots of pictures and some video - hope you enjoy! Thanks Steve for throwing me off.

YES. A SPECTACULAR DAY AT THE ROCK!!!!

Got 2.5 hours and 1200 over. Everyone had great launches. Carlos kicked ass with 2K over. I got below launch a couple of times and had to scrape back up on the ridge. Headed out to land after 2 hours and saw Eddie circling low. I tried to join him-- but it was too tight and I didn't want to ruin it for him. So I continued out to the LZ when I hit a really nice one that I couldn't pass up and climbed back up to 800 over for another half hour of flying around with Dan and Eddie. Kuritis Kemerer and Natalie showed up in the LZ. Haven't seen them forever. Kurtis has a pristine Ultrasport 135 he's trying to sell.

Hope Pulpit is as good on Saturday!!!
