Pupit Ramp

Post by stevek »

I have a message on my machine from a birder who says the ramp steps have been vandalized -- boards missing/broken.

Had time this morning to go look at the pulpit ramp,2 boards are missing from steps on the big ramp,1 board from each of 2 steps,2 or 3 riser flats that the board sits on and nails to are broken off in each vacant board slot. The back board is missing from a bench by the campfire. A birder named Mr.Gearhart was there and told me the vandalism occured on 2 seperate occasions, apparently both on tuesday nights.Mr.Gearhart had built a platform that sat on more than one step and provided a level place for a lawn chair by the wall near the bottom steps(removable, sat on the steps)out of the wind, these were also stolen on 2 seperate occasions, and thermometers they had on the side of the ramp were broken.I gave Mr.Gearhart the chgpa.org web address and Shawns phone #,told him I'm in the phonebook,He's there this time of year much more than we are,I suspect the platforms and missing boards are in the bushes somewhere below launch although I didn't think to look while up there. If anyone has a chance to start the repairs, please send me your receipts for reimbursement. You can snail-mail paper to
Cragin Shelton, Treasurer
4403 Roundhill Rd.
Alexandria VA USA 22310

or e-mail a scanned image of the receipt to
craginsh(AT)gmail.com
(If you e-mail me and leave out your address, I'll have to e-mail back an image of the check. Good luck dealing with that.)

Thanks!

Actually, I think this one might be a Pulpit expense. I'm the Pulpit treasurer. Contact info in the on-line roster.

POTM - has a security camera on the site at all times. Is there any potential for installing one at the Pulpit?

this could be expensive, but less so than having the whole thing burned down like what happened at High Rock. If it really only happens on tuesday nights, maybe just rent one to hide and let run for a few hours starting a couple hours before sundown.
