Accident Report Author?

Post by Flying Lobster »

In the latest issue of the USHPA mag there is a report which seems almost identical to a paragliding incident that I had at Woodstock in the beginning of the summer.

I don't object to the filing of the report--but was curious why no attempt was made to contact me to verify the story and subsequent printing. Anyone in the area do this?

Marc-

That was because I sent in your posting of the incident from the List server. I described you as a very experienced pilot who shall remain anonymous. I sent the exact posting without changes. USHPA incident descriptions in the magazine are "generalized". They do this to keep the focus on the incident and off the individual, being sensitive to the various personal responses by each individual.

I figured once it was on the web it was public domain. I thought it was a great story and I wanted to share it.

No, I'm not mad at all--but there were a couple of minor inaccuracies--the most important being that making it to the lz was a lost option within seconds--and that the canopy actually did a full collapse rather low--a toss of the reserve might have been a wise course of action--that's what my comment about luck was about. I would have readily included these details had I been asked.
