Post-Frontal at Woodstock later this week?

Post by markc »

The current ADDS forecast is hinting at a strong NW-going-West day on Thursday
at Woodstock... If that comes to pass, is anyone else thinking of trying to fly that
day? I'll be looking to re-arrange things at work so that I can take a day off, if
things look encouraging.

Some of the surface forecasts have backed off a bit (as of Wed AM), but 3K ADDs
still looks 'Woodstock-stength' .

I'll be checking things Thursday AM, and hoping!! :)

Sheesh, now the 'casts seem to be verging on too strong, can't these
people make up their minds?

Still planning/hoping to fly tomorrow, will be working from home in the
AM prior to making the call.

Steve and I plan to keep an eye on things for a while, and wait
for a forecast update, before deciding yay-or-nay. Probably
by 11-ish.

Well.... It's definitely a gamble, but Steve and I are going to give
it a shot. We're hoping that winds will lighten a bit by the afternoon.
Hitting the road at noon.

Mark, Steve, and Hugh. Arrived at 2, launched at 4, landed around 6. Neither too strong nor too cross. Gorgeous post-frontal day. I got to 5300 msl. Saw a pair of bald eagles early in the flight - interesting how they steer with their heads. Juvenile was on my six o-clock later, then peeled off to play with Mark. Mark launched first, landed last, natch. Steve graciously agreed to self-launch last. Aaaaah... - Hugh

The "Woodstock Effect" is alive and well. Winchester was showing gusts to 30 when we headed out. Mark was a lot more optimistic than I was.

And there I was, thinking it was *Steve* who was convincing *me* it would be good!
Guess we make a good co-dependent pair! :D

I launched a bit before 4:00 and landed around 6:30. My best was 2800' over, about
halfway to Strasburg. VERY glad I had a jacket, gloves, and barmitts... Definitely a
fall chill in the air.

Just downloaded a bunch of pics from the flight... I'll post a few in a couple days,
probably Monday night.

PS: There's a mandatory Woodstock dance that must be performed after every
successful Woodstock Effect flight! Oh yeah! Oh yeah, o-yeah, oh yeah!! :P
