Sat13Sept : High-land or High-rock?

Post by markc »

Looks like HRock could be potentially doable tomorrow, though with a West cross.

But it seems like Highland has better prospects for some sun, and a slightly lower
chance of rain.

What are people thinking? Anyone up for car-pooling?

With the High to the south, and the front draped across PA, looks
like a SW type of day to me. Never got a Skyline permit this year,
so it will be Highland for me...

Wow, an unexpectedly good day at Highland! Janni, Bob, Steve K, John M,
and Kirk were all here, flying our asses off! :)

I topped out at 3600 MSL, and managed about 1.5 hours of airtime. Great
day, good times, and unexpectedly good lift!

Cheers,

A lot depended on when you flew. Mark, Yanni and Steve towed up starting around 2:00 and me near 2:30! All I got was two extended sleds like 15 min after release with very smooth tows.

I had about 4 flights. 2 were sled rides, but on the 2 others I managed to find some thermals. It was the first time I've flown mid-day with a vario, and it was a blast! Hearing the beep beep beep of lift is an awesome feeling. It was a lot of fun flying around with other gliders too, it just makes the experience so much cooler. The wind was blowing pretty quickly aloft, so I often had to leave thermals to head back towards the field.

Sunday was looking too windy aloft to fly in, and the lift was looking poor, so me and Raj did some scooter towing with Jim.
