Re: Ridgley Sep. 3rd...
Ridgley was working today. I think I was the only HG diver to fly though. (Jim Rooney took the Phantom up for a bit and a lot of GA going on.) I towed up at about 2:00 with it pretty breezy out of the north to northeast. Flew threw a thermo at 800 AGL but released into the second one at 1600 ft. Thermals were plentiful but the sink was equally plentiful. Pretty much bounced around in gusty air between 800 ft to 1500 ft although once took a strong core up to ~3200 ft where it abruptly blew apart. Low save from 500 ft once. Flew with corn stalks and other flotsam to keep me company. After an hour the air got a bit smoother but I needed to get home so wanted to settle in. Hung out at about 1K over watching the windsock rotate around the pole unit it settled into a period of N. Spiraled down from 600 ft into a pleasant landing into a quiet LZ. Drank a beer while packing up and left at about 5:30. The wind softened as the day wore on. Traffic was light all the way home to B’more. There was a 4 mile backup on the east-bound bridge though. Thanks to Zach for pulling out the tug and giving me a yank.
Overall, an 7.6972 on the Fun-O_Meter.
