Pulpit Fly-In : Website updates : Accomodation info, etc.

Post by markc »

FYI, most of the information at the website for the Pulpit Fly-In:

http://www.chgpa.org/HGFest/hgfest.html

has been updated for this year's event. In particular, the descriptions
and links on the Accomodations and Dining page have been brought
back up to speed:

http://www.chgpa.org/HGFest/hgfest.accomodations.html

You'll find details about camping at Cowan's Gap State Park, the local
motels, B&Bs in Mercersburg, etc. If you happen to know anything
about the new place that has replaced McKinstry's Pub, please pass it along.

I don't know to what extent people are stepping up for tasks like
registration, the cook-out, commemorative gifts, etc. So on some
of the pages I've simply updated the dates, and assumed that things
will be as in years past. Guess we'll see!

Enjoy!

Pulpit Registration

Post by Matthew »

An excellent Hang 2 volunteer oppurtunity is working the registration desk. Any hang 2s volunteering to help out at the Pulpit Fly-In will be guaranteed to be Observed for the Fly-In. Right now, David Churchill is working to acquire raffle prizes. This leaves an opening for 2 or 3 other hang 2s to run the registration desk. It's easy. All you have to do is show up by 9:30am and sign people up. Registration essentially closes once flight operations begins. And then registration re-opens after the end of flight operations. You won't miss any flying.

So, any Hang 2s out there ready to volunteer???

Hey Matthew,
I'm planning to go and would be happy to help out with whatever you need help with. I'm pretty sure my butt will fit right in one of those registration chairs. Count me in.

Re: Pulpit Fly-In : Johnnie's Motel

Post by CraginS »

Johnnie's as a new owner. Bear and crew are no longer there.
717-485-3116 is still the number.
I spoke with Jerry this afternoon. He tells me they have new pillows and bed linens, and other improvements. They also have added to the menu in the restaurant.
Rates are about the same- $50 for a single for one, slightly higher for a double and more people.

There are rooms available for the 20th. You can call for reservations. (I have mine.)

Be aware - Jerry was rather emphatic that he wants to run a comfortable and quiet motel. When I asked about the hunters and hunting season, he went into a rant about how he will not put up with loud and raucus partying. He said a few weeks ago he called the sheriff to throw a group out that was having a loud party late night - 9 people in a room rented for two.
I assured Jerry that the pilots will do all of our partying up on the mountain top, and be calm and quiet in the motel.

Thanks for the tip about Johnnie's Craig, I've updated the accomodations page.

I also updated the prices for camping and cabins in Cowan's Gap State Park, per
the 2008 price guide from the PA DCNR .
