I soloed!

Everything went off without a problem Sunday night, and I got two solo flights in. It was quite a feeling :) I owe Sunny and Zack a special thanks because they got up early on Sunday to help me prepare for the solo flight in the morning with a few more lessons. They had a very long day. The above picture was taken by Kristen (hope I spelled that right), and was of me on my first solo. I landed pretty good but Sunny demanded perfection and was furious I was 50 ft off:

Just kidding, he was congratulating me for some reason the picture just came out looking that way

I also got some pics of janni coming in with his drogue. This one turned out pretty well:

I also have a Sport 2 on the way, and hopefully if I keep my pace up I'll be flying it before the end of the season. Thanks to everyone who gave me encouragement, these first solo flights were a lot easier knowing you guys were rooting for me :D

Huge congratulations on your solo!!! …and also on the new wing.

Nice that you have that shot of you flying off into the sunset to help with sharing your new hobby/passion with friends and family. Please be sure to keep them in mind when you fly and be safe. As cool as solo’ing must have been, wait until you hook into your first thermal and start climbing away from the earth. I’m still not convinced physics explains soaring because it sure feels like magic to me!

Blue skies to you,
Daniel

Thanks a lot! And to anyone who might read this and is thinking of taking lessons at Highland, I can't recommend them enough. Sunny and Adam are both great instructors, and really know how to make this sport as safe as humanly possible. Plus they and everyone else at Highland are just all around great people. I always enjoy throwing back a few beers with them after the flying is over. Now for my next goal: mid day flying and transitioning to my sport 2!

Daniel: I'm looking forward to it and safety certainly is not something I take lightly. I'm not planning on being one of "those" H2s ;)
