Saturday morning, based upon LZ & Wind Conditions, a clearly marked spot will be laid out, visible from pattern altitude. Pilots may select an appropriate approach based upon wind conditions at the time of their landing. Pilots may attempt spot landings as many times as desired. To qualify for measurement, pilots must land remaining on their feet without the glider nose touching the ground. Measurement will be from spot to pilots feet/control frame. Each pilot's best score will be used for the final scoring.
H2/P2 HANGGLIDER/PARAGLIDER DURATION COMPETITION
All competitors must be current USHPA members.
Pilots may launch beginning at 10:30am and fly until 6:00pm. Pilots landing after 6:00pm will be scored at 6:00pm. Pilots must land at the mountain LZ to be scored.
CROSS COUNTRY (XC) TEAM OPEN COMPETITION
All competitors must be current USHPA members.
Teams will consist of 4 members, established prior to Pilot's Briefings the day of the competition. Team Competition will be considered locked once pilots begin launching. Teams may be formed/reformed on the second day of competition if desired, but the scores from the previous day will not carry to the new team.
Teams may consist of hang gliders, paragliders, or a mixture of both.
Pilots will be scored by a multiplier formula for their glider type and distance flown. To qualify for XC Competition, XC teams must be formed and finalized prior to Flight Director's meeting on Saturday. Pilots may fly open distance in any direction with a 3 mile minimum required to qualify. Location must be verified by GPS Coordinates. Retrievals are the responsibility of each pilot. Officials will assist where ever possible.
Hang Glider scoring will equate to 1 point per mile or .1 point per 1/10th of a mile. Score will receive a multiplier based upon glider type as follows: Rigid = 1.0; Topless = 1.5; Double Surface = 2.0; Single Surface = 3.0
Paraglider scoring will equate to 1 point per mile or .1 point per 1/10th of a mile. Score will receive a multiplier based upon glider type as follows: Comp or DHV3 = 1.5; DHV1 or DHV2/3 = 2.0.
H2/P2 pilots will receive an additional X2 multiplier.
I've concluded that the planners are keeping the dates a secret on purpose so as to create awareness, interest, and possibly increased participation in the event. Hopefully the cone of silence will be broken before our calendars fill up too much.
