Re: Woodstock 8/6
A pretty good day at Woodstock (except for one person). A little on the breezy side at times. Dan Tuckwiller and Tony Dilisio were the first two to launch in light cycles with good launches and both immediately got above. Joe was next getting off in a light cycle then it picked up a little. Next, we had crash on takeoff with no injuries but glider damage. I launched next and got hit with some turbulence leaving the slot and later Steve flew. Some of my 2:10 flight was only 5-700 above and other parts getting a couple of thousand. I cruised a bit to the South and a bit to the North and later in the flight got my best lift getting to 4100 AL but drifted back over the second ridge. Toward the end of my flight had to head out in the valley to find sink to get down for landing. Maybe others in our group will report about their flights. After we all had flown, some KHK pilots starting flying.

Re: Woodstock 8/6
I went down and jumped the gap over to Short. Haven't done that in quite a while. Would have been a good Hburg day. The ridge was solid. But I don't think I do Hburg anymore so jumped back.
Re: Woodstock 8/6
I launched first into a light cycle about 1:45pm and turned right. By the time I was just across from the LZ, I was already well above the ridge. I spent some time in the bowl just north past the first finger. I ventured out past the second finger (the furthest down the ridge that I've gone) for a bit and then came back to the bowl in front of the LZ where I got to 1,900' over launch. I noticed a bald eagle cruising down the ridge way below me. After about an hour fifteen I headed out to land and found lots of lift in the valley. I circled up a couple hundred feet and flew out a couple properties past the LZ. I had fun playing with my shadow while cruising around. My approach was good though the air was pretty active. But I fell to my knees when I landed for the first time in 15 flights.
I didn't whack or belly-in anything but dangit! Total flight - 1:25. I landed first and hung out in the shade in the LZ. I thought Tony was going to come join me at one point but halfway out to the LZ he hooked a nice one and specked out again. Great job, way cool! When we went back up to launch, John and I helped the KHK guys get in the air. They had flown in the morning also. I hung out for a while and the wind didn't seem to back off like it was supposed to. Thank you John for throwing me off.
