To kick off :I think we should be very concerned about any kind of attack...

First , unbelievable that those two , instructor included violated the TFR, I believe something is wrong with the knowledge/education level of recreational aviation.

Second, does someone agrees that DC was overacting a bit?

Last, I'm wondering how a PG or HG looks on the radar?

Cheers

I am having trouble believing that there is not some unknown side to this story. They were 3 miles from the White House. They had to be looking at the Washington Monument and other major landmarks. You couldn't do that 20 years ago much less today. They had to know they were not supposed to be there. Anybody would have known that -- pilot or not

HG almost invisible, PG entirely so. 1000 pound C-150 crumples into a
ball if it flies into a building. Only threat is if it has bugs/gas -
in which case sending everybody out in the open is dumb. Yup, the
pilots were out to lunch - outdated charts - must have been living in a
cave not to know about the flight restriction zone. - Hugh

Outdated Charts? They accidentally picked up a 1986 chart? They got lost? "Gee, that looks just like the Washington Monument" It appears that it was just a mistake but I sure don't get it. I truly expected to hear that these guys had an agenda.

I am normally very impatient with all the security silliness but I think the reaction may have been justified in this case. At first you think "ok -- just Uncle bert and the grandkids off course." But as they get closer and closer it might be reasonable to conclude that nobody could be that dumb and that the intrusion is deliberate. 400 lbs of explosives could do some damage.

A 150 with two up and a bag of fuel is at max gross weight - I guess
you could carry a grenade in your pocket. Remember the guy that flew a
Cessna into the White House during the Clinton administration? It
bounced off harmlessly. Yup, they might have an agenda, but it might
be something about "freedom of the skies"... - Hugh
