High Rock Glass: Wed18Jun or Thu19Jun?

Post by markc »

With sunset after 8:30pm at this time of year, we have another mid-week flying
option: Bailing out of work in the afternoon and flying the High Rock glass-off in
the early evening!

Wed and Thursday look like they might be HRockable... If you can't arrange for
an entire day of leave/vacation time mid-week, an early day at work and then
hitting the road by 3:30 or so could buy you some craved-for airtime in exchange
for minimal time off.

Janni and I plan to keep an eye on conditions tonight/tomorrow. Would anyone
else like to give it a try?

I'm in DC again. If Thursday forecast holds out, I'll be trying to fly

Hmmm....

According to the NWS hourly surface, it's supposed to turn WNW
and lighten up a bit, later in the day:

Perhaps worth a try today after all?

Anyone other than Janni and I giving it some thought?

The hourly readings are showing that the shift to WNW has reached
Johnstown PA:

So that's pretty encouraging! But so far, all I've heard of
pilot-wise are Glen, Janni, and moi. Can anyone else get
away for a glass-off flight, assuming that the swing toward
the NW continues?

Well... we blew off the HRock plan on Wednesday when t-storms started
popping up on the radar, skimming along the MD/PA border. Wrong place,
wrong time, sigh.

Would be nice to try on Thursday, but at the moment it's looking pretty light,
and L&V by the end of the day.

Will at least keep an eye on things though!

Doesn't look like we're going to get an evening swing towards
the NW, so I think I'm bailing on my hopes for a late HRock
glass-off again today (Thursday).

Tomorrow maybe? Supposed to be West... But maybe with
a good sunny day conditions on launch will be better than
the 'cast.
