Re: Weekend Outlook
It won't be hot at 5,000 feet. Get up and stay there!
Fly safe everybody. I see some new H2s looking for observers, take good care of them we need the new blood in this sport. And H2s you'll find plenty of observers willing to help you out if you follow these simple rules:
Call them in advance
Find out what kind of beer they drink and treat
Offer to pick them up in their vehicle if they fly after launching you
and most importantly, listen to what they say and fly as safe and smart as you know how.
See you all in a year

We'll miss you Dan. Send us a note from Iraq whenever you can to let us know how it's going.

What, what, what? Dan is going to Iraq? Hey Dan, good luck, be safe and make sure nobody is going to kidnap you. And if you get a chance, take your glider and check the Pakistani mountains out, I hear they're are awesome for flying. Best of luck,

Yeah, good luck, Dan! But let's keep the references to "blood" in this sport to a minimum... - Hugh
Re: Weekend Outlook
Heat index forecasted to be near to or above 110 degrees, you'll have to get up above 10,000' just to get comfortable!! Although I'll reconsider in the morning, I think there is a good chance I'll be sitting in my air conditioned condo sipping fruity frozen drinks with an abundance of tequila, salt & lime!

Re: Weekend Outlook
Saturday I'm heading to BlueSky for some needed airtime, DBF setup and landing practice. With any luck, I'll find a thermal... and work on my skills to go up... or fall out, and try again.... and again...

Re: Weekend Outlook
I'll look again in the morning and post if we're going to the Pulpit. There's a swimming hole in Greencastle that we can divert to if flying is a bust.

Re: Weekend Outlook
If going to Blue Sky, be sure to check with Steve before going because of all the rain, the surface might be too soft for towing. Just a thought.

Re: Weekend Outlook
I'm seeing a several hour window in the surface 'cast that calls for
West @ 5-10 at The Pulpit mid-day, and the forecast aloft is somewhat
promising. Yeah, it's going to be hot, but what the heck, it'll be more
fun on the top of a mtn than at home. Can't fly next weekend, so
I'm probably going to give it a go.
Will probably head to Highland afterwards, for the ECC wrap-up
party.

I'm now seeing WSW all day Saturday for Pulpit. Direction looks better for Sunday. Gonna go jump in a lake on Saturday.

Re: Weekend Outlook
Yikes, can't even interest Janni!
Probably bailing on the day due to lack of interest... But the
glider's on the truck, so if anyone changes their mind give
me a call 301-807-5414 .
Hoping tomorrow's cast, or boredom, will tempt more people
out to give it a try on Sunday.

Re: Weekend Outlook
Only because of time constraints...I'm definitely game tomorrow if it's not quite as S and quite as lame...

Two ECC pilots headed home to New York would like to give Pulpit a try if there will be local hosts to show them the ropes. Rich Brown and Ron Linekin. The Board has determined that no waiver or fee is required. Please show these pilots our hospitality. - Hugh
Re: Weekend Outlook
Although is still might turn out light, I believe Dickey's is worth a shot on Sunday.

Re: Weekend Outlook
Spent the day at BlueSky. There were about 4 pilots there, Peter, John, Ray and myself. John and KathyC helped the students (5) in the AM. KathyC watched and familiarized herself with Steve's operation. Peter had the first truck tow flight of the day. He took a couple sleds and reported the air was very thin, thus the landing speeds would be higher... as well as not getting much altitude on tow. We all had pretty much the same experience. I did about 4 tows, total of about 28 minutes airtime. Thanks to Peters reporting of thin air, 4 decent setup and landings. Highest tow for me was #4 @ 830ft. Longest flight 9 minutes . I learned 2 things, One: The preflight check list is there for a reason.... never assume. Two: Landing speed/Flare timing need to be adjusted (increased) in the hot, humid and thin air. Three: Flying is fun... even if it's just a sledder. Till next time.

Re: Weekend Outlook
So who's flying the Pulpit today, I mean besides me and Cavanaugh? I see a 10+ W window that may last a couple of hours, it also seems that the pressure systems have somewhat stabilized the W flow since yesterday? I'm loaded up and ready to leave.

OK. I''m in for Dickey's. Assume Zelda will be there to carry our gliders up as usual.
Re: Weekend Outlook
Does anyone know if the grass in the Pulpit back (closest to the mountain) primary field is also high?
Thanks

Count me in! They're calling for a W@10-15 window in the afternoon,
from 1pm to 4pm. Daniel B was thinking about it when I talked to him
last night. Hopefully Matthew and Karen are still in. Who else?

Re: Weekend Outlook
There's a strip in the lower field. The air there's better, too. I'm planning to land there. If the grass is really high that's good, too. Then you can whack to your heart's content and the grass cushions the nose as it's trying to dam-buster in
