Pulpit Sunday???

Surface pressure map Sunday morning looks borderline, but WC is maxing out winds at Hagerstown at 13 MPH. Looks like a fantastic Pulpit day is in store. Midday throttleup a given.

The intellicast wind map shows stronger winds to the north and lighter to the south. Ugh!

Figuring out this forecast is almost as hard as trying to move the Island.

At least we have options. I'm down for flying tomorrow...lets see the morning casts and have some of you early morning types post where you're headed. I talked to Steve Kinsley, and it looks like he's game for coming out and being my observer at wherever ends up as the best site.

Presently, the blip map shows plenty of wind. Woodstock seems the only option as of 9:00 p.m. Saturday but who knows what tomorrow will bring. The 8:00 forecast dropped the chance of rain at woodstock, so maybe we will get lucky.

I agree, looks more like Woodstock to me, at least as of Sat PM.

The ADDS 3k map is calling for strong-ish conditions aloft Sun AM,
then dropping back a bit mid-day, then building again Sun PM.
Not the type of forecast I usually associate with the Pulpit.
But we'll see what tomorrow brings!

Anyone wanna carpool? Gimme a shout (I'll be up and out early
tomorrow).

Got off work early and cruised by Pulpit primary lz on the way home,tall unmowed hay,less than 3 feet. RichB

The intellicast, NWS, and Adds winds aloft forecasts all show winds on the strong side. For the contrary view, the isobar forecast doesn't suggest such strong winds. Based on those forecasts, I am going to Woodstock. I hope to be there between 11:00 and 11:30.

I'd feel better if that front had pushed through a bit
further overnight and it wasn't SW in Winchester...
But no real alternative, heading to the Stocker!

Well. I sure wish I'd been more skeptical of the forecast.

"Too strong for Pulpit, too light for Woodstock" . Been there, done
that, many times. And sure, figured that we might be gambling a
bit by heading to the Stocker.... But *sheesh*, NOTHING from the
forecasts came to pass. It remained WSW (maybe even solid SW)
from the time we got there (carpooled with Janni) until the time
we hit the road at 8:30pm. What a bust!

Two early sleds: Kathy C and Dan T (?). Two later sleds by Pete S
and Gary S, who definitely did not have fun in the air. I stuck it out
until 7pm or so, when the sun put in a late appearance, and sparked
hopes of a change. But nope, it still sucked in the air (though it wasn't
as rowdy as Pete and Gary's flights), and I sledded to the LZ.

Character building. Yeah, that's it!

I taught at Kirshners on Sunday. Wind directon was mostly west, breezy and gusty at times. I did some mowing and we set up around 1:30. At that point it was 5 - 15 and gusty and switchy so I though we might only do a little careful ground handling. A cloud street came over blocking the sun an hour+ later and the winds settled down so we were able to get some flying in. Stopped around 5:00 when more sun and more breezy conditions started again. Stopped by the Pulpit on the way home and it was a little cross left and fairly windy 10 - 20+ during the few minutes we were there. Judging on the conditions at Kirshners it was probably not flyable at the Pulpit most of the time.

I concur with JohnM,while mowing at my house and mostly all day it was turbulent,switchy,and gusty,my opinion was if it's like this here it won't be flyable there.Just before sunset it calmed down,might made a good sledder or pg ride but the unmown hay wouldn't be good for newer pilots.RichB
