Post by ronh »

hello, my name is ron hott and i'm not really new to the area but new as far as flying in the area goes. i'm hoping that i can hook up with an observer sometime in the near future to get some flying in and also meet some of the pilots in the area. i'm currently in lehew, wv just about 30 miles to the west of winchester, va.

Welcome Ron!
Did you learn with Juan or with Dwayne?
You are no further away (and in some cases closer) to most of our flying sites than the Washington DC contingent, so I hope to see you soon! Maybe even next weekend?

hello ellis,

i didn't learn in this area. i started out in medellin, colombia in march '07 and finished my p2 in washington state with doug stroop and denise reed last july. i've done a fair bit of flying the past 6 weeks or so and i'm looking forward to flying again as soon as i can. i'm not working right now, but have a project that will keep me a bit busy. i'm definitely interested in flying next weekend.

thanks,

ron

Hi, Ron-

As I like to say, welcome to our little corner of free flying heaven!

As Matthew and I mentioned to Matt B. a few weeks ago in this forum, most of the local flying sites require a P3 rating or a P2 and an observer. Send me an e-mail at dbrox@gwu.edu and I’ll send you contact info for the local observer’s as well as a site guide. The observer notes will tell you that the best way to arrange an observer is to call at least one day ahead of time and introduce yourself. The sites most frequently flown by paragliding pilots in our area and open to P2’s are Daniel’s, Woodstock, Pulpit and Bill’s Hill. Our primary training hills are Taylor Farm, Smithsburg and Oregon Ridge. Check out this forum and the hang gliding forum to see where folks are heading to fly.

Call on me anytime if you need help getting some airtime: 301.275.6584.

Best,
Daniel,
a local H3/P2
