Bill's Hill Clean-Up- Sunday!!!!!

Post by Matthew »

It's looking like a great day at Bill's on Sunday. So ya'll know what that means--- it's time for whacking down the weeds and clearing out the launh slot. So bring your instruments of destruction: machetes, saws, pruners, etc. And if you have a gas powered weed whacker or a chain saw, we need you there!!!! Come early, spend an hour clearing the slot and then have a great day of flying!!!!!

What time are we rallying for cleanup? Trying to plan whether I go to church with Suzie or bail early? Give us a time to shoot for and I will adjust accordingly.

Bill's is looking interesting to me, too. As far as timing - if we want to get some clean up work done, earlier is better than later. It usually takes me 2:15 toget to launch from home.

I just fired up the club weedwhacker. I'll be in Richmond tomorrow, but I'll be looking for carpooling opportunities for Sunday.

Like a fool, I trusted the forecast and planned a bunch of work
for Saturday, with cleanup/flying to make up for it on Sunday.

Course, now it looks like tomorrow will be mostly cloudy. Sigh.

But I'll go anyway, might as well. Carlos, I'd be interested in
carpooling!

Mark, Carlos, I'd be interested in carpooling. Even better, I won't bring a glider!

I'm annoyed by the late rain around DC and between here and Breezewood. Talk of fog on the roads un the nowcast is not fun. Planning later departure - arrival after noon, rather than before.

I'm drinking coffee, then showering and loading up. Should be on the road 10:00-10:30 ish. Expect 12-1:00 arrival.

10:15 - Throwing glider on the Jeep and heading out in about 10 minutes. See ya there. Matthew reports clearing skies at I-81 and forecast for Breezewood still looks good this afternoon. Come give it a risk with us! Will be on my cell if anyone needs to call 703.889.0894

Got my 2nd and 3rd flights today! Woohoo! Thank you Matthew for pushing me off today, twice, and both you and Cragin for rides back up and words of advice. Karen, we perservered hiking back up to launch and we beat that hill! Pilots - 1, Briar Patch - 0. Thanks for taking me back down to get my glider. In all, a very fun day for me - two sledders and two nice landings, the first was a no-stepper, the second was a couple-stepper. 8) Looking forward to flying with you all again soon. :)
Oh yeah, here's some video of our friend in the LZ.

It was great to see the HG and PG pilots at Bill's today, first working together
to clear the slot, and then flying together for some hard-earned fun!

Among the HG contingent were Dave B, Carlos, Janni, Cragin, Glenn, Gregory,
H-2 Dan T, Shawn, Chris, Bacil and myself. Flying PG were bi-winguals John M,
Matthew, Karen, and Daniel B, and PGers Juan, Charlie G, and many others. Didn't
have a chance to visit as much as I would have liked because we were busy
taming the pricker bushes and locust trees... Maybe someone else can fill
out the PG-pilot roster.

Winds were fairly light and the sun never appeared, so it was more a PG
day than HG. *Many* PG flights, both soaring and sled, and even some PG
tandems.

For the HG crowd, Carlos scratched his way above for a bit, and Gregory
picked a good cycle and got up. He probably flew for close to two hours.
Then there were several sleds. I lucked into a good cycle and was able to
chase Gregory up and down the ridge for over an hour, finally landing
because I was getting chilly.

A bunch of us wound up at the Pizza Hut in Breezewood, where we wolfed
down a couple pizzas in a couple minutes. Good times!
