Final Call for Kite Festival

Post by Matthew »

Hey All,

Big thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help out. All early monrning volunteers are reminded to check out the street closure map for the National Marathon.

See--

http://www.nationalmarathon.com/images/ ... oads08.pdf

Please try to arrive at Constitution and 17th at around 8:15am and then park on Constitution after 18th Street. Craig and Batman are bringing gliders. I'm bringing tables and several boxes of promotional materials. If you get there before any of us, please grab a parking space. If the street fills up quickly, we may ask you to relinquish your spot in order for me, Craig or Batman to park and unload our vehicles.

Anyone coming later in the day, your best bet is to park somewhere near the Washington Monument just after a street is reopened as shown on the map... or take Metro if you aren't carrying anything. However, please bring a chair of some sort if you have one.

And don't forget you're camera. It's going to be a beautiful day with kites in the sky and the cherry blossoms in bloom.

I'll miss out on the KiteFest this year because I will be out of town, darn!

If you haven't been to one before, trust me, this really is a lot of fun!
You'll be able to share your enthusiasm for HG & PG with all kinds of
people.

And this is an exceedingly RARE opportunity to promote our sports,
at a very high profile event, with huge attendance, at a fantastic
location.

How many other clubs have the chance to do something like this?
On the National Mall? During the Cherry Blossom Festival? Woo-hoo!

Doesn't get much better!

Holy crap! You should've seen the line kids waiting for a "ride" on the gliders. And all the parents snapping pictures with their cell phones. If exposure is what we were looking for, I think we got it. That kid's training harness did the trick. Wait for a big influx of pilots in 15-20 years.

We had fun. Kites filled the sky.
We lost count of kids under the gliders.
Batman drew a crowd.
