Sunday Flying (I'm a loser - I only fly on weekends)

Post by eggzkitz »

So this wasn't the first week where I came home (on a Wednesday) to get a message about a bunch of folks going out to fly the next day (a Thursday)... I am clearly not making good enough use of my sick days, or I need to go get a job at the World Bank...

But tomorrow is Sunday, and I don't have to work. Anyone thinking of flying?

Pulpit winds look great... but they are calling for flurries.

Woodstock?

Chocolate covered macademia nuts to anyone who gives me a ride to launch.

Aloha,
Jeff

The chocolate macademia nuts go to Ellis... A great day at Hogback, and thanks Ellis for the ride up!

The conditions on launch were suspect, with cycles being very occassional. Tom launched, climbed slowly then disappeared over the back. Juan waited a while, then launched and had a similar slow rise to altitude, then also disappeared. Ellis, Lazzlo and I showed up just as Juan was launching. Lazzlo finally got off and climbed pretty well over launch, indicating conditions were improving. I launched last (Ellis had the dogs and didn't fly) and also managed to climb. Conditions were getting good and thermals got pretty organized by about 1000' over launch. I eagerly took one up to almost 6k, and after enjoying the conditions for a while, my fingers froze to the bone (insufficient gloves... ugh) and I decided to abort and take care of my hands, landing in Browntown. Juan went x-c to Warrington and unsure how far Tom made it yet. Lazzlo cruised around forever in the plentiful lift. Good day after all... just need to get some better gloves!

Heyyyyy, we had a great day we went to hog bag got there around two, and Tom took off first it was light and variable and a little cross so you had to wait for the right cycle to take off he launch and went up after several passes and drifted N,E it was weird.I had to wait almost 30 minutes for the right cycle and when i took off it was weak and it took some work to go up but finally got something below launch and follow it also N,E manage to get to 1,500 mts MSL and turn and start flying towards Washington VA, got low and i found some head wind at lower altitude so i turned again towards Sperryville and found good lift right before sperryville and i saw Tom coming back from oldrag, when i hit 1600mts the lift starts drifting towards hogbag so i follow it and manage to get to cloudbase at 2,400 meters MSL right behind hogbag ( south side) by then it is freezing cold so i decide to go towards madison and i'm doing around 40 kph so everything it's good but today i decided to fly with my Skydiving helmet that has a visor ,so it got cold and i decide to close the visor and all of a sudden everything it's white and foggy and i got no idea where i am going so i try to open the Dammm visor and have mitons so there is no way i can do that, by the time i realize i can not open the visor and had to take my helmet off i'm half way towards madison but doing only 28kph ( the wind change again) i turn again and went Nortn all the way to Warrenton were i landed in a high school , so it was a very nice Cold day but it was worth it.
