Please Read! HTML in Posts No Longer Supported

Post by markc »

There's one big downside to the recent upgrade of the CHGPA forums : Support for HTML formatting in posts was totally discontinued by the phpBB development team.

And the conversion process from phpBB2 -> phpBB3 does not provide any mechanism for transforming HTML formatting into the equivalent BBCode formatting.

This means that all posts prior to January 27 2008 which made use of HTML tags, such as:
<img>
<a>
<ul>
<li>
are no longer rendered correctly. The most likely use of these tags would have been to include images, links, and formatted lists in posts. If that is something that you did a lot of, and you want to fix posts that you put lots of time and effort into, please contact me. I can't promise to fix (converting the HTML tags to BBCode tags) everything for you, but I might be able to help out.

Note that if you stuck with BBCode for your formatting needs, then you are not affected. And if you don't know an HTML tag from a carabiner, then you've certainly got nothing to worry about! :wink:

FYI, the reason for this change is that use of HTML poses significant security risks. I do understand that argument, but I am very miffed that no mention of it was made in the installation/conversion documentation. Grrr.
