Wednesday Kiting

Post by stevek »

Went up to Kenilworth Pk (off Kenilworth Ave) in DC to try some kiting. It was gusty but that there were periods of reasonably consistent wind. So i laid out, hooked up and built a nice wall before trying an inflation. Felt a gust at my back and stepped toward the canopy to keep it on the ground which usually works. But not this time. It was a dust devil coming thru. It was really really strong. The canopy inflated instantly and I was gone. 4 or 5 feet in the air initially. After that it was bonkity bonk bonk along the ground. Finally managed to grab a set of Ds and it stopped. I think I went close to 200ft. Whacked my knee a bit but no real damage. Just grass. Wasn't even wearing a helmet. I know, I know.

Yeah, I've done that too. Glad you are OK. I've sprained fingers before doing that. Wednesday was a blustery day. Winds were gusting to near 25 at my place in the afternoon.

take care ...

I think we should pass a rule that you can't be inadvertently snatched
airborne while kiting without wearing a full-face, certified helmet. -
