Someone was saying he possessed or could borrow a jack hammer (pneumatic or electric, can't remember)... - Hugh
Gregory the Greek said he could get access to some implements of destruction. He's supposed to contact me several weeks ahead of time so we can get the word out.

I don’t know if these are the same rocks or if anybody even cares but care was taken in construction of the ramps to avoid disturbing some of the rocks. Apparently they had some sort of historic value. Does anyone remember this? I know that Art Barrick would know. Anyone know of his whereabouts?

Pulpit Rocks

Post by Matthew »

The historic rocks-- a Pulpit Wall-- is on the North side and mostly underneath the new ramp. The rocks below the PG launch are just rocks.

I went to the Pulpit with both my ATOS VR and Talon. Set up the VR and had the upper surface zipper that holds the two sail halves together blow out. Tore down the VR and quickly set up the Talon still in time to be off second just behind a paraglider. Good lift (400fpm) to 5100' MSL and had fun dodging the paragliders. Got cocky and flew out over the valley took one thermal back to 4000' MSL and headed further west. Eventually turned back at 3000' thinking I could get back to the ridge, alas I was too low and had to land after an hour and a half. This was my first flight ever in January (33 yrs). Too cool!

Yeah, I hear ya Danny. Definately don't want to mess up anything of historic/structual value. I think Art still lives close to the Pulpit. Bear Valley perhaps. Not far from Fort Louden.

Looks like Mathew has a handle on it. Just wanted to warn about creating bad vibes or resurrecting phantasms.

the pulpit wall

Matthew, I tried to find something on that wall with no success. Can you give us all a little of the history?

The Pulpit Wall

Post by XCanytime »

The wall was the "pulpit" for a WWI veteran who used to preach sermons at the wall. Legend has it that he inhaled a bit too much mustard gas on the front lines during the war.

During the construction of the new ramp some of the old wall that used to be in the vacinity of the bottom of the new ramp and behind the steps to the side had to be knocked down in order to make room. Unfortunately, this might have been an oversight since Art reportedly reacted quite badly since he knew the preacher/vet in question. The "pulpit" in question as I recall was a small wall consisting of limestone slabs cemented together and was not near the boulders towards the bottom of the area between the ramps.

I may not have my history right--but Art--along with Mr. Danny Brotto himself--were primary initial contributors in enabling the original purchase of the Pulpit.
