At 10 AM, the cummies were already lining up into endless streets. I rushed over to Quest. (Paul had a doctor's appt. and because of the back treatments he's undergoing, he's not allowed to fly for 4 weeks.) My glider was set up, and though I was dissapointed to see it was the only one I ripped its cover off, practically frothing at the mouth.
Only Quest's office was locked. A note was taped to the door. It said everyone had been called away on last minute emergencies, but Russell would drive over to tow if he was called -- though he would need an hour's notice.
Russell said he would be there around noon but didn't arrive until after one, and then I felt like I should crew for the 2 novice pilots who showed up. Since I am more experienced I felt more comfortable self launching than they would have. The novice pilots were not ready at first. The first one pinned off at 1000 feet because he was locking out, so by the time I got the 2nd one in the air the 1st one needed to be launched again. Arrrghhhh!
It was almost 3 by the time I got in the air. I had all my XC gear packed but it was getting kinda late -- but hey, what a day! The lift was torn up some because it was windy, but I got over 5000 agl and flew for almost 2 hours. Even though I had dressed really warmly I was frozen and landed on purpose -- I really was so cold I was losing my ability to function. It was in the 80s on the ground and I had on heavy gloves and 2 heavy Underamour shirts!
Tomorrow is going to be good, too, but with lighter winds. I'm wearing my balaclava. Jamie is going to come out and play. You guys should come visit and play, too!!! Please?

I'll be down for a few days for the first week of Feb in order to do the Mt. Dora art festival--and then come back two weeks later on the way down to Miami for the Coconut Grove festival.
There's a pilot from Canada on the OzReport forum needing a contact to help him out for the time of Feb 6-13 (I'll be back in Chat then)--can I point him to you as a local contact to help get bearings at Quest?
