Saturday
Well, if the forecast is 15-20, then it will be blowing 35+ at the Pulpit. Thanks for the offer of having Leone wire crew. However, if the forecast holds true, we'll need about 6 PILOTS on each wire to launch at the Pulpit on Saturday.

A bit late to organize that.Could be a good Smithsburg Festival day.
Everybody's welcome to carpool with me. Give me a call at 240-481-6337 if you want to ride with me or would like me to ride with you. I enjoy the company as much as I like to save money on gas and do my best to be environmentally conservative. I have room for 3 gliders and 3 pilots since Leonie will be coming with me tomorrow.
Saturday Flyin!!!
I'm leaning towards the Rock. Still looks too strong for the Pulpit, even though the direction is better for the Pulpit. As to Smithsburg, it'll be a muddy mess on Saturday morning. Might be worth checking out later in the day after flying the Rock.

Flyin Today
I'm still leaning toward the Rock. The front still hasn't pushed through all of the way yet. Can't believe it will be light after such a big front.

Everybody who posted, and some who didn't, showed up and had soaring flights - a dozen or so - on a beautiful mild-temperature day with increasing blue sky. Two female hikers showed up as the first wave was setting up and appreciated the show; there was real crowd of spectators later in the day. The day started a bit gusty and with a pronounced west cross. There were a couple of sub-optimal launches in the first wave. About 2 o'clock, conditions started to mellow out and it got crowded on the ridge, since conditions didn't favor going to north and behind launch, so people were co-altitude at and to the left of launch. A sailplane (Danny Brotto?) showed up early, circling and strafing launch - taunting us to get into the air. George Tutor showed up without a glider, stayed all day and helped everyone launch - thanks George! Here's my best guess at a roster (apologies to whomever I inevitably forget):
Chris Dombrosky
Kelvin Hughes
Hugh McElrath
Janni Papakrivos (with Leonie)
Carlos Weill
Dave Bodner
David Churchill (with his nephew)
Mike Lee (with Rhonda)
Tim Hurlinger
Matthew Graham
Greg "the Greek"
Karen Carra
And a surprise guest appearance by Richard Hays - he only had one student and decided the training hill would be blown out so he came out to fly! C'mon out more, Richard!
There were some entertaining landings, but all within the realm of safety and acceptability. Nice way to end the year. (I'm sure there will be more flying the last couple of days of the year - and New Year's Day may work out too!) - Hugh
