misunderstandings

Post by Tad Eareckson »

I'm posting under a new topic in hopes of increasing the probability that Janni and Danny will take take note.

Janni apparently is under the impression that I inferred that he's a fat slob.

Janni has never, to my knowledge, been to Ridgely and I haven't been anywhere else since well before he first appeared on the forum.

We've never met. I have never seen a photograph. All I know about him physically is from what he posted three months ago whilst trying to get ahold of a suitable glider - that is that he weighs about what I do and clips in at a little more.

I don't know if he's a lot shorter than I had envisioned. I should have considered that before using someone as a top end example.

I don't know if he's every met Danny - great pilot, lousy sumo wrestler (at least at the top competitive levels). I'm guessing Janni misinterpreted the meaning of the ratio I used for an estimate.

Please note that in my "weak links" thread I consistently used myself as the most punishing example 'cause I was the heaviest hook-inner for which I had solid numbers in the local towing arena.

I am extremely sorry if I caused offense but I certainly did not do so intentionally.

In the future I'll just top off the Camelbak and resume citing myself (and - for the record - most of my biomass consists of reformatted ice cream with very little contribution from rippling Schwarzeneggeresque musculature).

Danny,

Lemme rephrase and expand upon what I was trying to say.

I would be taking cheap shots if I brought up the issue of failing carabiners to use as ammunition in my contention that you're not backing up unless everything from the bottom of the glider's suspension down is also backed up.

I wouldn't do that 'cause, in that environment, steel carabiners are not significantly stressed, are not abused, do not wear, and have never failed.

You need a lesson in tact.
"We've never met" suffices.
I'm not sure what all the other crap is for.

Janni is quite fit and has worked hard to be that way.
He is also an extremely nice individual.

Funny that you should mention that he's not been to Ridgely... like you have? News flash... you barely fly. Just because you don't see someone doesn't mean they don't fly. He flies more than you. Way more than you. He's an extremely active mountain pilot who comes out to tow on occasion.

Sorry... he's not the problem.

Try this on for size...
I've never met Janni. I shouldn't talk about him like I know him. I think I offended him and I'm sorry for that. I didn't mean to.

Nice and simple, very easy.

Apparently Janni also has some trans-gender desires--rumor has it that he recently attempted to crash the Fifi list by pretending to be "Jenni." :D

At the board meeting last night, there was some discussion about whether we need to moderate the forum more because of all the vituperation in this thread and the one that preceded it. It's a turn-off to new folks and old-timers alike. I'm asking people to moderate their language - and the length of their posts - and to keep it on topic. A technical discussion of hang-strap protocol is one thing; ad hominem attacks are different.
