Awarded today, along with the deserving likes of Harper Lee, was:
Henry Hyde. The Illinois Republican served for 32 years in the House, where he was known for his battles against abortion rights and his leading role in the impeachment of President Clinton. He was honored as a "powerful defender of life" and an advocate for strong national defense, the White House says.
All I can say is I do not share his values and he does not have my respect. Of course one must understand it is in his nature to be what he is. He is a republican in the mold of a bush.
Yeah, I disagree with his politics, but I liked his way with words - there was that line about "bowing at the waist" and slinking back from the Senate to the House side at the end of the impeachment. I liked the implicit acknowledgement that the impeachment was "infra dig"... - Hugh
