TC and epic conditions in TN

Post by Flying Lobster »

The record drought continues in Tennessee--along with incredible flying. Here's a post from a local pilot:

"8-23 Wed LMFP 9800 over launch

Terry landed at Henson's and Nate landed north of Chatsworth for
around 40 miles. Clouldbase was around 8700 over launch, but I got a
little higher by going in the [sic].

Record at LMFP is 10,000 over launch on Monday March 31, 1986. Going
up in the [sic], like I did today, doesn't count though!

Recent additions to the Team Challenge:

1. Mark Poustachian will be coming out of retirement and making a guest appearance.

2. Kevin Carter will be doing a landing clinic.

3. Mike Barber will be doing evening xc clinics.

4. Craig Koomber may make it with a quiver of Moyes demos.

This is shaping up to be potentially the best TC ever!

That's Kraig Coomber--I always get that spelling wrong for some reason.

Coming down for the Team Challenge

Post by Dan T »

I'm planning on coming. I'll be coming down with Bruce if I can get out of work on time. If not I plan to fly commercial and go from there. I've made arrangements to get my glider there. I don't have a team.

I'll be doing my last art show in Maine 5 days before the meet--so I will likely be passing through DC on the way down a few days before the meet. I can provide a body ride--but not much else since I'll be loaded down with gear and a trailer. Don't worry about teams--they're made up at the meet.

This is the best season in a decade or more according to locals--some of the best mountain flying you'll enjoy anywhere!

Falconeros

Post by Flying Lobster »

I am going to be flying my custom "UltraFalcon" in the team challenge and am looking to form a team of all single-surface gliders. I would like to call the team the Falconeros in honor of that tradition, but I suppose I must first ask Brian and Ralph if that is OK with them--whaddaya say? :D

falconeros

Post by brianvh »

so long as you mention it's a reflection of an old, hoary tradition up north, I'm fine with it. You need to get all teary-eyed and sh*t. Wish I could be part of the team, but they've gotten me teaching a class...taking up the time I was using writing me thesis.

Someday I'll be down for the Team challenge. It's a dream of mine.

I shall be sure to extol upon the exclusive elite status that is associated with the league of Falconeros--who's motto I think should be "Glide and sink rate--who cares!"

Why don't you form a splinter group, the "Drag Queens"?

On a more serious note, if Los Falconeros springs up somewhere else, it would be appropriate to mention Ed Reno - who provided the name and set the tone - to the new members. There's any variety of things to be said, but we miss him and he should be part of the continuing spirit.

(See, now I'm getting all teary eyed...)
