Free Kites at the Fly In??

Post by CraginS »

The Washington Times article had a blurb advertising the Pulpit Fly-In, giving dates and location, and promising free kites for kids.

If any show up, do we have that covered??

Also, it said we'd have a glider display. The last couple of times we did a display at Johnnie's no one came by. (Mark C and I each hosted part of the day.) Are there plans for such a display, or will we tell folks to come by launch to see them set up?

I feel the only good place to do a glider display is at the bar, in the parking lot beside (or in front of) the deck. Nobody comes by Johnnie's, and if we are not flying, there's no glider up on the ramp to bring in spectators. Do the display until the flying looks good enough that we don't need one anymore; that way the display people don't miss out (unless flying other sites) and they've got refreshment right there. The table and literature can stay without supervision. I think the bar owners would love it.

Don't know of free kites. I don't have any. Who's responsible for the article? Putting a glider up in front of the bar is a stellar idea. Now, who's gonna do that?

Got it Covered - Kites on Order

Post by CraginS »

Okay, with the expected overwhelming response to my inquiry, I figured a little action was needed.
I've ordered a gross of kites (yes, 12 dozen), which should arrive by 9/10.
This will give us enough to handle the onslaught of young'ns at the Fly-in, as well as a nice give-away at the Kite Festival on the Mall next spring.
Even if we get no tourists looking for freebies due to the Times article, appropriately aged offspring and progeny of attending pilots will each get their own kite. Further, I am sure we can unload the remainders at the Smithsonian in April.

Not to worry about breaking the bank. A marvelous outfit called Oriental Trading Company is our supplier. They even have a sale on the most fitting item for our needs.
Here is the link to see what I ordered. Notice the price.

The kites arrived today. We have 12 dozen. Kids of all ages can each have one! I even told Janni he can have his own.
The link below shows what they look like.
