Sunday AUg 26. Good forecast for the day so Sugar Mtn was the call in northern California. I launched first in a nice cycle and got up to two thousand over and thought it would be a no brainer to stay up. Found myself sinking while waiting around launch for Bruce to launch. As Bruce got off and slowly up I managed to find all the sink there was and had to head out and land after half an hour.
Bruce continued for four more hours and landed north of Paisley (65.5) straight line and 73.1 mi (olc) He managed several low saves and topped out around 12,200msl for the day. It was seven o'clock by then and we found the place to be for dinner: The Paisley Saloon. Antlers, Bear traps, mountain lion skin, hanging from ceiling; animal skulls on walls, and a sign "Here to serve you ass, not to kiss it. Coors blimp over the bar with cold Alaska Amber on tap. Had a great veggie pizza while examining all the branding irons brands on the wood walls. Bruce landed in Calahan's field according to the locals we talked with. Free pool at the Paisley Saloon on Sunday. Twas a fine day in the Goose Lake Valley. You should try it some time.
The only bad part of the day was when I strained my back which is putting me out of flying for a couple of days.
Probably Sugar again for monday but the forecast is a little lighter and more south.
One of the other attractions are the people headed to Burning Man gathering over the Labor Day weekend. What looks like boats on wheels, out houses, cabins and all kinds of weird looking campers headed south were on the road. The people could have been Woodstockers with guys in dresses, tattoos, and all sorts of colors of hair. Going to have to make it to Burning Man some day.
