It's looking good so far. Bacil
Pulpit Saturday
I concur.
And a high of only 82 in McConnellsburg... as opposed to 90+ in DC.

pulpit is the place today
It looks like a no brainer to me today. The Pulpit is the call. Although Woodstock fired off much better than I would have expected yesterday. Somebody drag me out of here I have a bad case of the lazies.

Winds are S right now at McConnellsburg, but all of the surrounding weatherbug sites are showing dead air. I'm still on the fence, and much like Dan T, I have a bad case of the lazies this morning. I don't feel like sitting in sweltering heat without a breeze to get me off terra firma for an extended period of time.
on the way
I'm on the way. It's going to be great Chris, get your battail up there!

The Pulpit was hit or miss, the ones who got off at the right time got high and got out of there, the ones who didn't quickly found themselves in the LZ. I was in the soon-to-the-LZ group. As strong as conditions were on the ramps I thought soaring would be easy but it clearly wasn't. Reports of cross from the south in the LZ compared with cross to the north on the ramp might have provided a clue. Bacil and I landed within a minute of each other.
Matthew had the flight of the day with 22 miles in his paraglider. I think Dave Procter was second with 20 in his topless.
After I picked Matthew up he was kind enough to help me set up the glider for a late afternoon flight. I had visions of getting up and out this time but it was not to be. A pleasant glass off soaring flight ended the day.

Pulpit Saturday 7/7
Pulpit was great! Flew my bag twice. Two other baggers, Jeff and Thomas, flew. Hangies included Dan, Karen, Carlos, Dave P., John M., Joe Brauch, Cragin, Kelvin, Daniel B., Chris McKee and Bacil and most everyone soared.
I launched my PG in somewhat strong conditions for the 1st flight and had to side-step the rocks on the right of launch and then use speed bar to get out front. Once on the ridge there were no penetration problems. Got 3K over in a thermal with Dave P. but decided to stay out front and catch the next ride over the back. That didn't happen. Landed in a flush cycle after an hour flight that also caught Jeff and Kelvin. Bacil survived the flush and Daniel B. went over the back-- making it to Greencastle.
Launched again at around 3pm and went over the back with 3K over-- made it to Lemasters after another thermal. I wanted to reach Greencastle and try to hook up with Daniel B. and his ride. But the drift and closer clouds called for a turn to the North. Arrived at next cloud at launch level and took it up to 4700 over (6900msl). Then I bopped along the back edge of string of clouds to Chambersburg and jumped across I-81. Saw a nice huge filed about 3 miles east of C-burg and headed there to land. At 3700msl hit the biggest lift of the day, 1300 fps up. It felt like I was being plucked into space. Climbed back up to 6K msl and went to the edge of the Michaux State Forest. It was hazy and all I could see was trees, trees, trees. So I flew back upwind to the field I had picked.
And then I couldnt get down. Bacil radioed that Dan was on the way. I boated over the field for about 20 minutes betwenn 3700 and 5200msl without even trying to stay up. Finally found some sink and landed after 1:45. Dan arrived as I was folding up the wing. I think I landed about 22 miles out, with furthest point being a couple of miles more... my longest PG XC flight.
Went back to launch and helped Dan set up for an end of day glass off flight.

How was it: Great!
Arrived at the launch around 10:30A. My buddy Shawn Ray was up on the ramps and had volunteered to launch assist and drive today for me. Conditions on launch 6 to 12 MPH and pretty straight in. Leisurely set up in the shade as cumies started poppin' and conditions picked up slowly. In the meantime Cragin showed up. A bit of excitement occurred when we heard lots of sirens going up the Cowans Gap State Park road across from the bar. A biker goobered himself up wrecking his bike near the lake. A cop drove up to our parking lot and warned none of us to fly since a medevac helicopter was inbound and was going to land in the parking lot of the bar. We thanked the cop big time. Daniel Broxterman and his driver girlfriend Charlotte arrived just in time to see the helo take off from the parking lot and head to Chambersburg? Other arrivals were Carlos Weill, Dave Proctor, Dan Tomlinson, Chris McKee, Matthew and Karen, Kelvin Pierce, and paragliders Tomas ? and Jeff Eggers. Tomas took off in his paraglider around 12 noon and easily got up, followed by Jeff in his paraglider, who did the same. Conditions looked smooth in the air. Matthew was having some trouble getting off in his paraglider since conditions had picked up, signalling to me that it was time to go. Launched just before 12:30P and got up pretty easily in 12 to 18 MPH winds. Lift was ratty and narrow. Matthew finally got into the air, as did Dave Proctor. Dave got high and went OTB. He made it east of Chambersburg. I struggled to get 1600' over at one point but the lift quit. I wanted more to go OTB. But didn't get it. A flush cycle hit that claimed Kelvin, Matthew, and maybe Jeff as well. I somehow survived it. Still, the lift was ratty and I suffered one wire slap just above launch. Saw Daniel Broxterman launch and head down to Rt. 16, kinda low. Then I looked down there again, and he was climbing out big time so he went OTB. He made it east of Greencastle. At this point another flush took place, with conditions on the ridge turning way SW. Dan had joined me in the air by this time (2P+) and he and I surfed the crap air between Rt. 16 and halfway back to launch. I saw too many trees up close, so I bailed after battling the cross air for 10 minutes. Went out and landed in an area of the main LZ I've never landed in, just between the two tree lines in the south part. Dan landed right behind me shortly afterwards. While we broke down we saw Joe Brauch come in to land and overshoot the back area and flare to avoid the corn. The flare worked and he avoided the corn. The corn is high. Matthew launched again in his paraglider and got stinkin' high and went OTB, making it to near Fayetteville on Rt. 30. Funny he kept complaining about being over an LZ and having lift come off of the field and keeping him airborne
. Back at launch John Middleton got into the air and joined Carlos in getting high. Chris McKee and Karen launched and did the same. Cragin elected not to fly, so I hit the road just after 5P+. Got word from Dan that he flew again in glass off conditions after retrieving Matthew. A typical day at the Pulpit in early July.
