THis one is a little late, however, enjoyable.
Thought I would like to relax and enjoy a day with Rhonda, when I thought, "HEY DUMMY" you have kayaks. So, why not go to the river and get a little R and R floating down the river at Woodstock.
In typical Mike fashion, I decided to let Rhonda know, we were going to Woodstock, but not FLY. Boy oh boy, the reponse was a good one. she had expressed an intrest in it, but i didn't realize to what extent.
We packed up the truck, and headed out. The skies were hazed over, and with thoughts of the previous friday's flight fresh in mind, we parked at the bridge field. Gatorade and lots of H2O down the hatch, we shoved off. Floating and paddling, paddling and floating, we made it through the calm and .25 class rapids...... thought this would be a great place to teach her, since this would be her first time in a kayak. We had traveled around one bend and had come to the power lines where you cross, in order to hike back up to launch, when we turned around.
Now, it was time to decide weither or not to hike to truck, drive around to the LZ or paddle back up stream. Well, those of you who know Rhonda can probably figure this one out.....LOL...... she starts paddling back up stream... MAN, I'm gonna tell you, what a workout! she managed to keep just in front of me with furver and determination, at a level a rarely see.
Up this rapid and then the next, til we finally reached the calm just prior to where we had put in. As we approached the last leg of the journey, the sky starts to let loose...Spinkle here and there.... Hurry hurry.... we thought, but it soon stopped...
We had made it down and back, no flips or dips to speak of... A good Float...
We pack up, and tried to figure where to eat... Tired and hungry is not a pleasant place to be, so as we headed back through the valley, got a hankerin for some good 'ole BBQ. earlier we had past this shabby little place along Rt. 340 in Whitepost, Va that smelled out of this world, and finally stopped by..
The Name is Mr. B's.... And let me tell you, by far the best pit BBQ in the area. you have to try it, if you are passing through....
So, if anyone is interested in kayaking, get with us, it is a blast.....
or maybe you just want to eat great food.... give us a call....
I know, i know, i'm a little anti-climatic, but i hope you get the point...
'til then, Mike & Rhonda
