Sweet. How often do you have a chance to demo wings from 3 different manufacturers?aerosports wrote:gliders from Wills, Moyes, and Aeros
Please show these guys how much you appreciate their hard work and RSVP. There's no reason to wait. Fly-ins are fair weather or foul.

Demo
Maybe we can demo some to the beach? I haven't made it there in a year and a half... Heather and I will be out and JD as well, or so I am told.

I'm looking for a roommate Saturday night. Either the slow horse inn at aout $30 each or a motel in Denton at about $55 each. I'm up for either.

Ahh... good conditions!
Dr. Jack's forecast is dubious... but (sorry Dr. Jack) I don't believe him!
Should be a very nice weekend at Ridgley! Beach goal on Saturday and Sunday, well, I've got dibs on a 155 Sport 2, please!

I'm really sad that I can't attend the fly-in tomorrow, especially with the beautiful weather that is forecasted. I purchased concert tickets for enough money to discourage me from blowing it off and unfortunately it ended up being the same day that Ridgely decided to hold the Fly-In. Just my luck Depending on how late we get home and how much energy I have will dictate whether I'm able to pull it together for Sunday, but I don't have a lot of hope as Monday is the start of an incredibly busy week with little time for rest. I'll keep my options open for Sunday, but I wish everyone the best and safest fly-in possible and I'm already clearing my calendar for the Pulpit Fly-In this year.
P.S. Matt & Karen, let Suzie & I know where you are planning on getting a room!

Arrived late as predicted about 1 PM with 87-year-old parents and Sallie. Ate lunch under pavilion. Mom enjoyed meeting everyone. It was strong and tows were reported to be rowdy. I had intended to demo the small T2, so elected to take the 'rents to Chestertown while Sallie rode her folding bicycle with Matthew and Karen - waiting for it to back off. Upon our return at 5 PM, reports were mixed. Sunny recommended towing with my U2 first. While I was setting up, Judy McCarty was working on Mom to take a tandem, but Sallie stole her steam and took one instead. (She's been committed to go since her birthday two years ago.) I towed with a hermaphrodite rig incorporating my regular "Lookout" release and the Thad mouth-armed emergency release. Conditions were smooth, but I found light lift to hover in while the tug went back for Sallie and Rooney in the tandem. He gave her a good ride with wingovers at the end. Gorgeous blue day. I bet a bunch of people made it to the beach. - Hugh

Great weekend at Highland. Saturday was gorgeous but a touch windy and tows were rowdy. I launched at around 2 or so and my tow was active but I've had much worse. Many were heading to the beach and I fully intended to myself. Alas, I went down just 10 miles or so east, but had good company as 3 other excellent pilots joined me. One of them, got back to Ridgely and set up a second time and got the FOTD... all the way to Ocean City and he didn't leave Ridgely until just before 4pm!
I flew again later in the lightspeed for about an hour and Heather got to fly as well.
Sunday was better, with a B/S ratio of 95 and another gorgeous but blue sky. A bunch of folks readied for a 62 mile triangle and we all launched and climbed up to 5K. I couldn't stand it any more and went East to the first TP. Soon, JD, PK and Mark Cav and I were whirling around and getting miles. They weren't easy but there were some good climbs out there. Soon, it was just the topless gliders (me on a T2), and the 3 of us had a ball team flying around the coarse. Got to 6000' and saw 600fpm once on the averager but most climbs were 200-400 fpm. We all landed short after making both turnpoints and missing a triumphant return by 12-15 miles. 4 hours of beautiful Sunday flying.
Great day out there and a great party, feast and bonfire Sat night. One of the funnest XC flights I've had.

PS... Glad to hear you are OK Bruce.

Ya, she liked it OK. Don't think she's hooked, though. But Mom's bragging about how she WOULD have gone, but she thought Dad would have been upset. Remind's me of the story about the farmer and his wife who went up with one of the barnstormers in the 1920s. The farmer was cheap and didn't want to pay the $5, so the pilot bet him that if he refrained from any exclamations of fear for the entire flight, it would be free. The pilot tried everything: barrel rolls, loops, spins, long periods of inverted flight - not a peep out of the farmer. Pilot finally gave up and landed, said "You win!" Farmer said, "Well, it was a close-run thing: I almost cried out during one of those maneuvers when Gladys fell out!" - Hugh
