Road and Metro directions for the June 27th CHGPA meeting
are now available in our Events Calendar:

http://www.chgpa.org/Events/events.html

Kolie provides a wealth of forecasting info during his talk,
which will definitely help you make decisions on days that
are difficult to call. You'll learn a lot!

The library amazingly allows us to bring in food and refreshments as long as we clean up after ourselves. You don't need to bring anything, but you might want to bring something to share.

I'm hoping posting a reply will elevate this topic to the top of the stack on the forum page. "Ya'll come!" - Hugh

Confirmed that Kolie will be giving his presentation tomorrow. Due to work and house renovation with family arriving (they will be in a tent in the backyard if he doesn't make some progress quick!), we agreed he will give his talk first and then be excused. This will be good in case we have any walk-ins who might be bored with club business. Also, incentivizes (learned that word at the Enron Management Institute) people to get there on time: 7:30. In response to a request for reporting on what happened at the meeting (as if I would tell YOU who did not show up! - actually the turnout was pretty good...)

- Kolie Lombard gave a fine presentation comparing soaring with sailplanes vs hang-gliders which generated a lot of interest.

- Hundred dollar bills were distributed.

- Caviar and champagne were served.

- Janni Papakrivos volunteered to be the coordinator for our annual Pulpit fly-in (15-16 September). Please note this does not mean Janni can do all the work; please volunteer to take care of pieceparts as he advertises them; "many hands make light work"...

- USHPA President Lisa Tate will be our speaker at the 27 September meeting (location TBD but we'll try for Arlington Library again).

- Richard Hays/Maryland HGA has decided to hold the High Rock fly-in in October for better weather than in August

- Emma Jane sent a "thank-you" card for individual and club contributions to her husband Harry's funeral expenses. She does still owe money to the funeral home, so the window is still open for contributions...

- club project to repair Coffee Pot Lane (access to Emma Jane's house and the High Rock LZ) is in suspense pending a call to the county to find out why they aren't maintaining the "road". (Yeah, we'll probably end up doing it ourselves, but this is a sop to those who still believe in holding government to its responsibilities...)

- initiative to do a real estate deal that would ensure Emma Jane's and her son Randy's tenure while securing the LZ from encroaching development - remains in abeyance while Emma Jane has time to grieve and until we are able to learn her wishes

- proposal to establish a paraglider launch at High Rock requires further study/submission of proposal to Washington County/face-to-face discussions with county officials

- discussion of whether to engage with Shenandoah National Park to seek permission for Dickey's site maintenance. Still making up our collective mind on this one; visit to the site after the meeting suggests trees are higher than remembered, but fear and loathing of authority remains strong. I said "maybe" and that's final!

I just spoke with the public works department for Washington County (240-313-2257) and they confirmed that it is a private road. So, the maintenance project is back on. Hugh, that's your cue.

OK, can I get a quorum for Friday afternoon 6 July? How about the 13th?

Shawn, can you get the truck those days? How late?

Once we have agreed on a date, need to call Emma Jane and see if Randy will be available with his tractor.

I'll be out of town. Do we want to postpone it for Fall and cooler weather? Maybe to coincide with the fly-in.
