Looking good for the SAC this Saturday. Janni, the drive will be worth it this time :D . North and breezy, not like the blowout most of the day on Mother's Day past.

How are you pulling that long drive of, Bacil? It totally killed me the last time. Anyway, on behalf of the MSHGA, which is alive and well btw and yaddi yaddi yadda, Emma Jane is very lonely and needs our suppport more than ever right now. Flew HR last night with Glen. It went magic and we both soared for nearly an hour in winds as smooth as silk at sunset. Stopped to talk to Emma Jane, despite the late hour she welcomed us and seemed grateful for our company. She was raving of Richard's lasagne. So, if HR looks launchable I guess that's where I'll be.
Maybe we could make arrangements for an evening barbecue in the LZ and get her out of the hourse? What's the status of the gas tanks from last year's fly-in?

Got a late start (for me) and got to the SAC around 11:30A. Joe and Karen were weedwhacking and mowing the setup area. Breezy conditions in the slot and blue skies above. John Hope showed up while I set up. Launched around 12:30P. Got up after a little work and headed west towards the river. Just before Klingerstown Gap climbed to 3500' MSL (2K' over) that enabled me to jump it easily. Conditions were pretty choppy. Between the Klingerstown and Pillow Gaps the conditions on the mountain started crossing from the NNE. Saw two sailplanes running up and down the dragstrip that is Mahantango Mountain. With the tailwind I jumped the Pillow Gap with only 2500' MSL. Past the Pillow Gap the ridge curves more NW but there are a few spots that curve back to the N. I stayed by those spots for an hour looking for a ticket OTB with the Harrisburg North Golf Course as a goal. The conditions were ratty from the NE down there. I couldn't find a decent climb to get me above 2400' MSL. Frustrated I surmised that the cross conditions shouldn't provide too much rotor I took a thermal drifting SW OTB. Maxed out at 2200' MSL and pointed straight downwind, which was due south. Landed in a soybean field between a turkey farm and a goat farm. The landing was just west of Berrysburg, PA. not far from Rt. 25. 4 Mennonite boys, all brothers, came over to check me out as I broke down in the shadow of one of the turkey houses. Finagled a ride back to launch with Jason in his black VW Jetta. Had a nice chat with Jason about the Mennonite culture and learned a few things. Back at launch Keith Olena had arrived and was set up, along with another pilot whose name I didn't catch. Jason checked out the launch and met the pilots. I gave him $20 to help fill his gas tank up and promised to land again in the future by their goat farm. Retrieved the glider and met two other Mennonite children whose parents own the turkey farm. They want me to come back too, but in the fall after the crops are gone. Got back to launch, observed a few launches in still breezy conditions at times, then hit the road. Conditions looked a lot smoother in the air by this time (6P+).
