Harry Carbaugh, sad news...

Post by Danny Brotto »

I understand that Harry Carbaugh passed late this afternoon. As many know, Harry’s was admitted to the hospital for heart condition a month or so ago. He was patched up and slated to go home soon after. Sadly his health further deteriorated with multiple conditions.

I'm sure that Mrs. Emma and family will appreciate your condolences however you feel it best to offer them.

Would someone post Emma's address. I think the last time I sent something to her it didn't make it.

Emma Jane really does consider us to be part of the family. There's a chance I'm wrong, but I think if people made an effort to stop by there (preferably without gliders) and give her a hug she would appreciate it.

There will be a viewing at the Davis funeral home in Smithsburg at 2:00 this Friday followed by a graveside service at the Smithsburg cemetery.

Emma Jane doesn't have any money for the funeral . The least expensive she could get was $4300 which to her is really huge. She will be paying for it over time. So please help her to the extent you can. She can handle checks.

I Visited Emma Jane Wednesday

Post by CraginS »

I drove up to see Emma Jane and deliver a food basket this afternoon. She was in the kitchen by herself, on the phone when I arrived. I stayed to visit for about 30 to 40 minutes. Randy came in after a while, and then her granddaughter Jeannie. Emma has been hit pretty hard by the loss. She said she has been doing nothing but crying. I told her I know how that goes.
Emma and Harry were going to hit 48 years of marriage next fall. Wow. Now, she thinks about how empty and quiet the house is, especially at night. She has faced loss before. I had not realized it, but she has lost two children, one just before his 19th birthday, and one at age 35. At the funeral for one of them, the preacher told her, "The wind has to blow hard to make the tree strong." Back then, she thought he was crazy. Now, she said she understands what he meant, and he was right. SHe is strong, but she wtill needs support right now.
They have family coming in from Tennessee and West Virginia. As Steve said, there will be a viewing at the funeral home at 2:00 on Friday. Then the service to be at graveside will be at 3:00.
There was no sign in the kitchen that friends and neighbors have started bringing in food for them. I was glad I could provide something. With that in mind, I'd like to suggest to anyone who can go on Friday that you bring a gift of food, in addition to anything you can do towards the expenses.
I am going to try to go back up on Friday. Note to self - Friday the highways will be filled with holiday weekend escape traffic, compounded by increased State Trooper enforcement.

I was in the UK when Harry passed, so headed up to visit Emma-Jane
and Randy after work on Wednesday. Caught up with them for a couple
hours, and tried to give Emma-Jane a chance to remember and talk
about Harry. After 47 years together, you can imagine how lonely she's
feeling... She would really appreciate having pilots stop by after
a good day of flying, just to help make the day go by. To Emma, we're
all her "hang gliding kids".

So give the Rock some thought on the next NW@10-15 day.
