Smithsburg Friday

Post by CraginS »

Steve and Ruth K., Dave P., Curtis and Natalie K, Richard H., and I all made it up to Smithsburg this afternoon for Harry's viewing and graveside service. It was a rough time for Emma, Randy, and all the family. Emma Jane was crying a fair amount at the funeral home and at the service. She was doing a bit better back at the house afterwards.
When each of us spoke with her she asked, "You're going to come see me, aren't you?" We assured her we would. Even with family around, she is so afraid of being alone and lonely. At one point I told her to lean on her kids now. She answered, "Y'all are my kids, too."
Funny... this afternoon I went into the front room to see Emma. I think that is the first time in nearly 10 years I have seen her anywhere other than the kitchen or front porch.
I talked to Randy a bit. He told me that he had been doing pretty well until yesterday. But yesterday and today it all hit him hard. He said,"I've lost two brothers. I can be strong."
I've hardly been to HR to fly over the past year. I need to get up there more often. However, Richard, Steve, and Dave all suggested that our HG community would do well to get up there for time to time, just to visit in the kitchen, or maybe even take Emma out for supper. Good idea. We'll have to harass each other a bit over the coming weeks and months to make that a reality.

oh yeah... a reminder that Emma is gonna need some extra help to cover the funeral costs. Please do what you can for her.

Cragin, Thanks for the write up man and your time spent with Emma today.
Message received. My grandmother up north lives alone and I can appriciate her new situation. She is going to need our support and caring.
I can stop by on my way home from work time to time and visit with her and see if I can help out with upkeep and chores.
I am sorry for her loss......
Peace, Shawn.

shawn, you can put me on your fix-it 'people to call' list, if you'd need back-up/help/etc. thanks, garyD
