Some teaching and site maintenance

Post by silverwings »

Had a pleasant class with two students at Oregon Ridge on Saturday starting with good conditions going to lighter and variable by 2:00 but they both got 7 flights and I got 4. Lazlo and wife were flying paragliders when we got there but left in early afternoon. Rusty joined us for one flight but wasn't feeling well so he left. George also did a flight on Rusty's glider.

Decided to spend my Sunday going to Taylors to do some mowing and was suprised at how the grass had grown in the last month since I was last there and did some cutting. I spent about 5 hours mowing on my riding mower and only got about 60% mowed but got most of the area we commonly use. It seems like it is the never ending job during the spring/summer/fall to cut grass there.

Hi, John-

Thanks for the long hours mowing at Taylor's!

Any idea what the family's thoughts are on haying the field? Someone feel free to correct my numbers, but seems like there's enough cash in it to be worth a neighbors time: I'd guess 7 acres x 1.5 tons/acre x $70/ton = $735.

The problem is if I don't cut it, they will let it grow and cut and hay it when it fit's their schedule and the site will not be usable for most of the spring and summer. There are lots of areas on the farm that they hay and Mrs. Taylor doesn't mind me mowing the part that we use. The gravely riding tractor/mower I own and use does a good job but as the grass gets higher it takes longer to mow. A larger tractor with the multiple mowing bush hogs that the farmers use cut a much wider area faster and they probably would cut the area we use in an hour or two. When I teach there on a regular basis then I can mow an hour or two each time and it's not a problem. When the weather/wind direction and lack students cause me not going there for a few weeks or more that it start's to get out of hand so that was why I went last Sunday.
