Bill's Saturday

Post by KathyC »

Yahoo! I had my first mountain flights for the year at Bill's yesterday. The wind stayed cooperative for sled runs for a nice steady 4-5ish hours. It looked like everyone had a least a flight or two or three.... George, Shawn, Dennis, Dave, Marc, Rich, Mike, Bruce. Okay, I'm HORRIBLE with names so I know I've left some folks out...

I got to the site around 1130ish, and there were several people that were already there cleaning up the site. It looks real nice there now and I know a bunch of people really put some time and elbow grease into cleaning it! Thanks ya'll.

I had the first launch of the day. Things looked great, so Shawn and Rich helped throw me off. There really wasn't too much popping out there at all, but I was just focusing on a sled run anyway...don't think I'd know much to do about those thermals yet  . I came in pretty low over the LZ so I didn't have the approach I planned. Then my landing wasn't that great since I didn't hold my flare... WACK. So, on my second flight, I focused on being a little more fluid in my approach and everything after that went much smoother. Thanks Shawn and Rich for all your help and advice! :D

Everyone else had great flights, although no one found much of any soarable conditions. Shawn stayed up for a little bit, but then things just disappeared. Just not a soaring day for anyone. And winds were too light for any ridge lift. But, either way, everyone seemed to be in good spirits and just happy to be out there! I was happy to meet some new folks and see some "semi-recognizable" faces (sorry Mike). Thanks all!

Bills hill clean up

Post by gtutor21157 »

Wow! What a nice day Rich Hays .. (YEP!! Mr Rich Hays actually showed up to a flying site.) and i headed for bills for alittle clean up and potential flying,we arrived around 11ish and found that Dennis,Shawn, and Dave really damaged the terrain, then Bruce arrived with his kiiling machine what a difference they made compared to us swinging the Ancient tools of desruction.. The winds were blowning straight in and we pretty much decided to take advantage of the weather.
After running a few cars to the bottom Rich threw me off for my first return to mountain flying in over 6 years, i kinda white knuckled for a few moments then relaxed until the sled came to an end.packed up and headed for the top for round two.. ding ding.
At the top we heard a chain saw running who could that be Mr mark Gardner what a nice surprise better late than never .. All and all it was very nice seeing some old faces and returning to the air..

Congratulations Kathy, George...and Rich! Many thanks to those who operated motorized and manual brush-control devices! (Wife declared a Derby party, so I was head-down and tail-up all day cleaning up...) - Hugh
