Flytec Day 6

Post by Paul Tjaden »

Another quick update:

Perhaps the best downwind flying day we've ever seen in Florida sent over 80 pilots heading south 127 miles to Florida Ridge and a huge percentage of them made it. Not certain of the exact count but it seemed that there must have been at least 50 pilots there. Climbs to over 7,500' agl and 10 knot tail winds made it unbelievably easy. I actually went on glide to goal under a cloud street about 20 miles out and never had to turn again. Not one of the other three pilots sharing my pickup vehicle had gotten close to goal all week and all made it yesterday. Linda Salamone broke Kari's female Florida distance record by two miles (a record that Lauren has been hoping to break). Lauren actually got out of bed and flew a couple of minutes yesterday but was stiil not up to a big flight and went home to bed after helping all of us launch.

Only problem was with everyone making goal I didn't move up much. I am now in 41st just squeaking into the top half. I had hoped to make the top 30 and fly in the Race of Champions next week but the first two really light lift days killed me and even a great showing today would not move me that far.

Gotta go and set up again!!!!
