The Wing has been christened!

Post by Batman »

Lucked out and beat the weather forecast for once. Arrived at Ridgely Noonish. Mark was already up in the air, and Carlos had just arrived a few before me. Set up and worked out a few hang strap issues and then watched Sunny take the glider up for a Test Flight. Everything checked out so I christened the Bat Wing for her maiden voyage. Short Extendo flight, found some zero sink at 1300, but nothing more. Was a very bumpy tow combining rusty skills and spring air but a reasonably good landing (read: NO WHACK!) Mark & Carlos both got a couple flights. No real soaring to be had, but we maintained blue sky and flyable winds until around 4:00pm. Drove thru some rain on the way home, but nothing too horrible. Will post pictures tomorrow once I download them from my camera. Was really nice to start my flying season in April!

I got about 30 minutes fairly early, topping out at about 3700MSL.

For my second flight, I drifted way downwind in patchy lift, getting
back to release level. Lots of pops and momentary singing from
the vario, but couldn't hold onto it. Found something right over the
end of the runway at 800, but was too worried about the location
to work it.

It was a fairly good day.... Was expecting more pilots, with bad weather
coming in from S & W and an obvious Sunday washout. Where wuz yas?

PS: Also took delivery on a Rotor Vulto harness, woo-hoo!

Hurray on the harness!

Saturday, Matthew, Karen, Sallie and I went bike riding at the ag center. Grossed out the ladies in hats at the tea room in old Bowie. Sallie and I just got back from a four-day ride on the Cumberland-to-Pittsburgh railtrail starting in the snow on Easter. Thighs of steel! - Hugh

I saw the Wednesday forecast and didn't pay attention to the changes at the end of the week. I spent Saturday doing chores and thinking I should have been at Ridgely.

Bad, bad me.
