This is a follow-up on John's query for PVC end caps. Others may be thinking about using large pipe for storing a glider. I recommend it, since I have two pipes for this purpose.
However, another bit of advice: Instead of using PVC, use HDPE pipe. This is the black corrugated stuff, often used for irrigation and drainage. BUT, be sure to get the double-walled type, which has a smooth bore inner pipe. That makes it so much easier to slide the glider in and out. I once saw a pilot at Lookout with the single-wall HDPE on his truck. He had to use carpet scraps under the glider to get it in.
Major advantages of double-wall HDPE over PVC - half the cost, and half the weight.
You will have to call around to find HDPE. J&H Aitcheson in Alexandria did not have it when I asked, but they pointed me to another supply house in Waldorf. Sorry, I cannot recall the name of that supplier.
