Flickr: New photo site has VERY useful tool!

Post by Scott »

A new online photo-sharing site is in beta now and offering free accounts (don't know for how long). It's called Flickr.

It's pretty similar to Webshots, Smugmug, and all the other online photo sites, with one BIG distinction: Flickr allows you to add pop-up notes to your images, defined by "hotspots" that you define. This is a fantastic tool for pointing out details in picture, explaining what's going on, educating viewers, etc.

When a photo with hotspot notes first loads on the screen, you see the hotspots outlined by rectangles...but only for a moment. Then the hotspots go away until you mouse over them.

I just uploaded a test photo ("My Marimba") to try it out---it's awesome! I think everyone here should open an account. (No, I don't work for Flickr and get nothing from the recommendation---I just think it's a great tool!)

Check it out!
