I'm not seeing SE until sunday and then really light. But it looks like
it may be an outstanding Oregon Ridge day saturday, hopefully not too
strong. Haven't done that in a long time.

9:00! What? Have you turned into Bacil? We'll try to be there by 10:30am. Bring instruments of destruction. I know the clean-up is scheduled for the following weekend. But if we're there, what the hey, lets spend a little time cleaning up the slot.

I HATE SOCCER!!! Seriously, it's an activity specifically designed to inconvenience parents as much as possible. (Maybe some kind of test of our devotion?) I've never seen so many "drone parents" before who seem to have no lives outside their kids' soccer games (and doing yardwork).

My daughter has a game at 11:45am. (See what I mean? Blows the whole Saturday.)

I couldn't possibly be at Bills before 2:30pm. I'm guessing by then,
a) everyone will have flown
b) it will have calmed down to L&V

Crap.

Launches and Landings

Post by Matthew »

So. Get there by 2:30. Sunset still isn't till 7:30+. Even if it's L&V, you can get in 3 or flights--- 3 or 4 launches and landings. Stop worrying about airtime and soaring. And you'll never learn how to get up in light conditions by only flying in bullet-proof soarable conditions.

Points well-taken Matthew! I'd be happy doing some launches and landings. Believe me though---I've had plenty of experience flying in light conditions at Blue Sky. :D Now I just have to run it by "The Committee." (Holly and Kate.)

I admit I've been spoiled. By pure luck, most of my first mountain flights were all soaring flights. (It would have been easier had I done a dozen sleds before soaring---I'd be more accustomed to them.)

Still looking like ENE at 7-10 Saturday throughout the main part of the day. Could Bill's be any better?
I agree with Matt.. bring tools and make this the pre-workday clean up.

And Oregon Ridge is looking a tad strong for dodging obstacles. I may
have to join the rush.

Just looked at gas prices today for the 1st time in weeks and was
shocked. Anyone from the Arlington area interested in carpooling?

Count me in for the Bill's stampede!

Trying not to get too keyed up; the day will be what
it will be, eh?

But I have to admit that the glider's on the truck, every
accessory I own is charging, full tank of gas, camping
gear's at the door, and I've been giving page 75 of the
PA DeLorme map a few glances as I type :-)

I plan to hit the road by 8:00 tomorrow. If anyone wants
to arrange a last-minute SUVy-pool, give me a call
after 7:00:

PS: Oh yeah, I'll have a bow saw and weed whacker for
the site cleanup too.

PPS: There's a Starbucks in Breezewood now. If you haven't
tried a Chantico yet... well... it's to hot chocolate like wine is
to water. Highly recommended for chocoholics!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention... I'll give the PA forester
(Jim Smith) a call to let him know that flying will be
going on. But I'm going to give him a timeframe of
noon-ish, presumably after the bulk of the site cleanup.

I just think it might be better if they swing by after
most of the work is done, when we've got a few bags
of trash collected to demonstrate our positive impact.
