As Davis noted in the Oz report: After two weeks of watching fabulous Q's decorate the sky but not being able to get at them due to too strong winds we finally got back in the air today. There was a mid level overcast that kept the sun at half power for most of the day but the unstable air under it created great soft lift that sometimes kicked in and showed us as much as 700 fpm climbs. 8 to 10 knot east winds and low cloud bases around 4,400' made it tough for XC (going west just puts you out over the Gulf and there really are no beaches in that direction, just mangrove swamps) so we contented ourselves with punching upwind several miles or flying small triangles. There were around 10 of us flying and most of us got at least a couple of hours.
Tomorrow is shaping up to be an excellent triangle day with strong lift and light winds. Should be excellent practice for the upcoming competitions down here.
