Good flying day! Thurs July 30 2026 : Woodstock and The Sac

Post by markc »

(Just a placeholder post, hoping to provide some pics later....)

I was able to get away for an afternoon flight at Woodstock on Thurs July 30. Four PG pilots also flew: Joe S, Randy W, Tom C, and another pilot who I've met but I can't remember his name. Many thanks to Joe for his help with dropping a vehicle in the LZ and the ride back up top!

It was a swirly/unpredictable day in the slot when I launched at around 3:45. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I asked for feedback from Joe and he thought it didn't suck. Was glad to hear that... I sometimes feel like my launches are worse than they are. Maybe that's a good thing? Or not? Sigh!!!

I flew for about 2:45. Two climbs to 5200MSL, and then another gnarly one to 6300MSL. Hung out in the valley for quite a while, near the chicken coops and above Muse Vineyard. Then well north of the LZ pretty close to Route 11. Just circling around in zero and such.

There was a lot of lift, but it wasn't easy. Mostly a thermal day, not much ridge. So I'm feeling it today!

Crashed in WS overnight and then did the 'Big Schloss' trail this morning : Very, very worth it.

Then back to Muse for a wine tasting and a flatbread. Then back on the road for home. What a great couple of days!

Bacil told me that he flew Sacramento on Thursday, but I don't know what the fun-factor was like. Long drive up there... Hopefully he had some good airtime!
