Possible Taylor Day on Sun22Mar

Post by markc »

Just a heads-up that I'm hearing of at least some interest in a day at Taylor tomorrow, if the winds stay solid SW. Gonna be a hot one if we go though, be prepared! Will post if a consensus firms up, tonight/tomorrow-AM.

Cheers,

Looks like Bari and I are going to give it a go (assuming the forecast doesn't completely tank overnight).

Anthony is a maybe, given that it's a long darn drive for him. There might be some others, Bari is reaching out. Crossing fingers that the forecast stays solid SW!

No surprise I suppose: In spite of the forecast, it was more S than SW today. I always try to moderate my expectations during that drive down to Taylor, even just one flight should be considered a success. And there were some occasional straight-in cycles! Enough of them that I got three flights on my newish-to-me U2 and Bari got two flights on his sleek/race Sport 3.

Taylor is really tough unless you are flying Falcon/etc wings. I knew/expected that. But even so... The day was a bit humbling for me. Taylor simply is not an easy site on an 80+ early spring day  I liked my launches, but I rolled-in on my first flight and bellied-in on my second. The third was interesting, landing into a strong thermal cycle and getting popped up multiple times. I think I kinda/sorta was on my feet for that one??? TBH, I was just happy to call it a day with no damage.

Big thanks to Bari for being willing to head to the hill even though Edith's Gap was looking good, SSE. Next time out I'll follow his lead!
