Re: Distressing News Regarding Valerie

I just saw her 6 weeks ago. She came to Karen's Memorial Polo Tournament. And we had gone sailing together with Hugh a couple of weeks before that. She was doing so well in her battle against cancer. I am beyond grief stricken. Valerie was an amazing person.

Re: Daniel's Sat07Oct

First high flight in over a year. Got 900 over and about an hour. It was very light on launch by the time I launched my PG. AIr was a little choppy. But there were nice lift lines out into the valley, especially to the west of launch. So weird being there without Karen. It's coming up on two years s...

Edith's Saturday -- Pounding In

Flew my PG a couple of weeks ago at the Pulpit. Four flights -- two extendos and two soaring slights. Flew Edith's yesterday. Mixed bag. Tom and Krista and Dan and a couple of others flew early and got rained on and had to land. Tom C. went OTB and landed in Fort Valley. Round two was some more sled...

Re: Woodstock Saturday 11/7

Walt is almost at Smithsburg at 9:45am.

It's raining here again in DC.

If rain ends here in DC by 11am, Karen and I will head on up to the Rock.

Will post again at 11am.

Leaning towards the Rock as the forecast is NW and it's always so damn North cross at the Pulpit when the forecast is NW.

Re: Woodstock Saturday 11/7

As of Friday morning 11/6, wind barbs for High Rock are a solid 10 NW all day.

The front has already reached WV.

MIght be a good day to do some more cliff launches.

Woodstock Saturday 11/7

The rain has been taken out of the various forecasts for Saturday. And there is an 18 DEGREE TEMPERATURE DROP from Friday to Saturday.

The wind casts show only NW 5-10.

However, the 18 DEGREE TEMPERATURE DROP would indicate otherwise.

Looks like a Big Boy Honkin' Woodstock day to me.

Re: Daniel's Saturday

Karen and I arrived at the LZ at 1:30pm to find Krista. She had had a one hour flight. Tom Cuenen had flown to Stanardsville. We gave Krista a ride back up top. It was completely decked over with fairly strong winds at launch. And then the wind just died! Randy was on launch and waited for a cycle. ...

Re: Sat24Oct : Possibly a Highland Day?

Thanks. If towing a Mark IV is anything like towing a Pulse, which I imagine it is, then you will want to get a length of paracord and tie it to the nose plate at one end -- and the junction of the downtubes at the other end, along the length of the undersurface zipper. Then put a loop with a knot i...

High Rock Sunday Evening

It looks like a front is passing through overnight Saturday to Sunday.

ADDS, MRF and NOAA winds barbs all show NW around 10 for Sunday late afternoon to evening up at High Rock.

Hmmmmmmm.

Re: High Rock 40th Anniversary : Oct 3rd/4th : Volunteers Needed!

Big thanks to everyone who showed up for the fly-in. I was a bit worried that it would be a bust with only fifteen firm commitments-- and part of that group diverting to Woodstock. We ended up with about 40 persons for the party!!! Special thanks to Walt for being the grill master, to Hugh and Tom a...
