Re: Thoughts on switching to PG?

Oh, and Sparky too---how's it going Spark? I forgot you're another bi-wingual pilot I know!

Thoughts on switching to PG?

Hi Everyone... For anyone who doesn't know me, I'm a non-current H3 pilot with around 120 hours of career airtime. I love hang gliders and though I've been out of the scene for the past year (last aerotowed at Blue Sky about 6-8 months ago), I don't want to quit flying altogether. I've always been o...

PS - In my previous statement, I'm by NO means supporting the lawsuit---being a good friend and fellow pilot (and keeping an eye on each other) should NOT make any of us (individually or collectively) legally culpable.

Just wanted to make that clear!

I just saw this news...and am really saddened to hear Bill's kids are doing this. I knew Bill well, and he'd be the first person to say "My bad" and would be horrified if he knew what they're doing. Having said that, I was the one back after the accident who was expressing disbelief that n...

Thanks for the great comments everyone. Hang gliding is way too special and extraordinary for us to give it up. Each time we fly, we think to ourselves, "Isn't this frickin' INCREDIBLE???" There's no way we'll give it up...so we'll find that balance that allows us to continue safely in the...

Holly and I had a great return to flying at Blue Sky over the weekend. We arrived late Saturday, and I was frankly feeling too mellow to fly, so just hung out, relaxed, and socialized! Holly got in several truck tows in calm evening air and did great. Sunday morning Holly and I got up bright and ear...

Well, though I have nothing against a Falcon, I'd have to say my (now dated) Eagle is about 90% Falcon! :P It's pretty docile, and I can stuff the bar to my toes and "elevator down" just like a Falcon with no fear of PIOs. Holly's Sonic is pretty tame too. We're looking forward to a mellow...

Currency (or lack of it) and flying...

Hi Everyone: I know I (we) have been absent from the local flying community for the past year (maybe more?). Holly and I haven't lost our interest in flying, but it has taken a back seat to other things like increasing commitments/activities with my daughter, job changes for both of us, home improve...

First post in a while—Holly and I rode our motorcycles up to High Rock in time to see a whole gaggle of pilots who we didn't know! Granted, we've been away for the past year or more, but it was surprising (and encouraging) to see so many mountain pilots that were new to us. Present were Carlos, Dave...

It was great seeing Joe, Gary and Pete and being up in the mountains. I was particularly glad to study the Dickey's Ridge slot, watch everyone launch, then walk all over the LZ and watch everyone land (as well as meet the nice landowner). I fully intend to get back in the air this (new) year, and ba...

Hi Hugh—I've got the Xmas party on my calendar and hope to make it (and hopefully Holly can make it too). It would be good to see everyone, and we can yak motorcycle tripping. :-)

A quick afterthought: though it's a beautiful place, Nova Scotia is over-hyped in my book. I found Newfoundland to be FAR more beautiful and interesting, both from a scenery and cultural standpoint. Cape Breton Island is spectacular too, and though technically a part of Nova Scotia, most Cape Breton...

5,000 miles to Newfoundland and back!

Hi Everyone: Just thought I'd touch base for the first time in ages. Holly and I are still around, and haven't given up on flying (though we haven't flown in six months). Holly's still been incredibly busy at her Ernst & Young job, and we've been doing a lot of work on the house and yard (plus t...

That's definitely scary Hugh---you couldn't have done anything. Being more visible might have helped, but then again... I often ride with my high-beam on during the day (and sometimes at night)?I honestly don't give a rat's a** if it bothers people in cars. If I bother 'em, then the high-beam has do...

Was that a joke Hugh??? :o If not, I'm sorry?that's a drag! Glad you weren't hurt more! You fit the statistics too, I'm afraid?that the majority of accidents happen within 10 miles of home. You have a point about the dangers of motorcycling. On the other hand, the way I ride, I literally condition m...

Just saying hi.

Hi Everyone... I feel like I've been completely divorced from our club and flying community, having hung up flying for the winter! But I'm still a pilot, and plan to spend some time at Blue Sky in the spring getting my wings back, then hitting the mountains again. (It's that 2 steps forward, 1 step ...

Taking the winter off...

Though it's not a decision etched in stone, I've come to the conclusion that I'm likely done flying for the winter. I thought I would be more motivated to fly in the cold...but now that winter's here, and I'm snowboarding and cross-country skiing, I realized I don't miss flying. That's certainly not...

Great! :) Now---who do we contact to make corrections to our listings? (I'm an H3 now, my call sign is K3LSW, and it might be better to put my PO Box 26 address instead of my street address.)

Thanks,

BVH said... As far as a glossy brochure goes, remember that we typically hand out a couple hundred of them each year. Slick is expensive. I think what we have is about right, especially since anyone running low can easily run off a few copies for themselves. With money (potentially) saved from going...

You make some good points Cragin. Like you, I read the paper Washington Post every morning instead of Washingtonpost.com . With respect for the need to keep The Skyline in print for landowners, park rangers, rescue groups, etc...this point really isn't about whether or not we can provide club inform...
