Re: Observer Meeting

I just got off the phone with Martin Palmaraz (USHPA Executive Director) who reiterated that USHPA's position is that all qualified pilots who would like to be observers are encouraged to request appointments . Also he stated that USHPA would like to help our club meet the needs we have, and that th...

Re: Observer Meeting

I am personally a big fan of "our" use of the observer system. I had some great flights as a H2, I learned the importance of hang waiting, and what goes into the decision to pack it back up. The point raised that USHPA would want to distance themselves from legal liability seems silly, giv...

Re: Hanging by My Two-Strings: an Essay on Excess Nervosity

I would argue for status quo. I really like the way that region 9 has used the observer program as a mentoring track. As a relatively new H3 (measured by airtime anyways), I was only rarely been skunked because I couldn't get an observer on a good flying day that I wanted to fly. Unless you are luck...

Re: Responsibilities of Pilots and Observers

As a relative new H3 (in terms of hours) I think that our region does a good job with observers mentoring H2s. The only thing that I think we could do better is to promote some new observers from the ranks, especially on the P side.

Re: High Rock Cube

Thank you for creating a discussion topic. I think the club could afford modest changes at both HR and Woodstock, as long as there is continued financial support from the membership and the FFF. Priorities for HR I see are: 1. Ensuring permission to land in 2013! 2. Integrity of the cube so that it ...

And your CHGPA helped put the piece together! The person at NY Times that does graphics is here in DC, and she called me for technical advice regarding flight through thermals. I also gave her some of the great reference material from Pagen's Training Manual.

Thank you all for feedback and for raising concerns about HR. We don't have to discuss logistical limitations at this stage because we need to finalize our concept, and once we have done so receiving approval is going to be the task at hand. Regarding approval from the Forest Service, it is my under...

Re: New pilot to the area

I think our closest local flight park will rent space in their hanger: www.aerosports.net It's kind of far from the mountain sites but might be a good option for you initially while you are finding a way to keep your glider closer at hand.

Thanks for the update. I am not sure about the dues increase, but am open to coming around if they make a convincing case for it. I think regarding our presence in the air, a statement from directors of parks where we do operate by special permit in support of our position would not be too hard. Man...
